Hello, SDP allows P&L per services at budget level, does apptio plan to provide same functionality with actuals? as product managers wants to mesure their product efficiency againt reality (actuals)

    thank you

    Hello Sylvie,

SDP focuses on planning discrete services (business facing and component IT services), whereas CT looks at costing services at the tower level, meaning it does not have a formal notion of a component IT service. The allocation is done to the resource tower, which flows up to the Business App / Service layer.

Here is a model that may be able to better show the differences.

    I hope this helps!

Both SDP and CT can be used to calculate TCO and cost per unit of services - but the models and methodologies are very different in their approach.

It would be useful to understand how these two models and methodologies can be used in conjunction with each other, and how Apptio envisage the products being used together?

The PowerPoint slide above is also somewhat misleading as for CT it shows allocation steps through a service hierarchy - which the standard model and reports do not support. So the SDP "service layers" cannot be easily replicated in the CT model, and would involve a lot of manual effort to build.

Ideally, there should be a way to take the service demand data from SDP (which is essentially a list of consumer/provider pairs and quantities) and load this into CT to replicate the model.

    Hi Jim,

You bring up a good point as there are typically differences in the way the service models are constructed between SDP and CT. While we can support dynamic consumer/provider model within Service Demand Planning, we do not yet have the capability on the Cost Transparency side to build a similar dynamic model without some manual work in aligning the data .
