    Posted Sat June 17, 2017 02:45 AM

    Hello Guys,

I have setup a lanfree backup but failing to execute not able to understand what is wrong with my configuration or setup.

    TSM version 7.1.7

    Storage Agent version 7.1.7

Installed on windows server 2008 R2 both.

configure the server and path on tsm and dsmsta on agent server but when I am executing the backup for test it's failing with multiple errors sometime it showing unable to access device mt0.0.0.2 and mt0.0.0.3 or sometimes it shows insufficient space unable to mount although lanfree option is highlighting that means configuration is setup correctly. I am sharing the log pls help me out stuck on this point only.

    Hi Guys,

I found one mistake while defining the path I used the device id which is was there in TSM server but after verifying steps I found I have to use the device id which is visible in storageagent server. I have deleted the drive path and redefine it with the device id of storagagent client now new error message started displaying.

when I searched that it says 2 reason behind it one hardware issue which is not true when I am doing backup of tsm server where storage agent is not there on that server I am able to take backup and tape is also mounting that means no hardware issue then only issue which I suspect is defining the path of drive has some issue that is why it is not able to open the drive.

    Prem,

Above error still points to the drive/path/library definition issue.

      - Make sure you are seeing the drive at Storage Agent OS

      - Make sure you are giving the correct device name in "device" parameter in define path command.

A quick solution would be delete and redefine the drive/path definition.

How many drive assigned to storage agent system?

What is the OS of your StorageAgent system?

    q drive f=d

    q path f=d

    q library f=d

Capture device OS specific information : (For Windows)
    > cd \program files\tivoli\tsm\console
    > tsmdlst.exe > tsmdlst.out

I am checking the drive on storage agent server. server is 2008 R2. 2 drives assigned to storageagent server, I have already deleted the path and tried to redefine it . I am gathering the inforamtion from storageagent server only.

additionally I have created one service with the help of command sc.exe create to run the dsmsta service on background it is also not functioning,I have to manually go to storageagent path and has to run the dsmsta in foreground. Pls do let me know if i missed something to be cover here. sometime it is throwing different error attached below and device id also.

You shared "q path" actually "q path f=d" output will give us the serial numbers of both drives so that can we compare with OS. So, you can share me q path f=d.

What is TSM server OS if it is also Windows then also share same "tsmdlst" output from TSM server.

    - Tried to add/remove drive at OS level then delete/redefine drive/path. Use "autodetect=yes" in define path command.

If I remember you reported issue against STA "DCPRHYPERV01"..right?

I have checked q path output:

    SPINST1         SERVER          DRIVE01         DRIVE            3100LIB1                        mt0.0.0.2

    SPINST1         SERVER          DRIVE02         DRIVE            3100LIB1                        mt0.0.0.3

    DCPRHYPERV01    SERVER          DRIVE01         DRIVE            3100LIB1               mt0.0.0.0

    DCPRHYPERV01    SERVER          DRIVE02         DRIVE           3100LIB1                mt0.0.0.1

    .

    Drive      devicename@TSM  devicename@STA       Serial#
    Drive01 -> mt0.0.0.2      ->     mt0.0.0.1                   10WT086004
    Drive02 -> mt0.0.0.3      ->     mt0.0.0.0                   10WT082147

    .

I believe you have to use device name mt0.0.0.0 for drive02 and mt0.0.0.1 for Drive01 for STA DCPRHYPERV01 path definition. So, it must looks like:

    DCPRHYPERV01    SERVER          DRIVE01         DRIVE            3100LIB1               mt0.0.0.1

    DCPRHYPERV01    SERVER          DRIVE02         DRIVE           3100LIB1                mt0.0.0.0

    Hello Bharat,

You are right I changed it now it is moving into Lanfree but only when I go into storageagent folder path and run dsmsta command although I tried to automate this command process service installed perfectly correct but when I am launching the ba client gui it says lan free path failed but when I run dsmsta no issue it works well.

I have used this command to installed the service.

    sc.exe create TSM_Storageagent binPath= "C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\StorageAgent\dstasvc.exe" start= auto

    Prem,

Are this tapes are SCSI or connected to Fiber channel. You use Q SAN or show SAN. I do not use mt or lb device. I uses SAN ID and it works all the time.

That's cool, at least now you have drives are defined correctly.

Is this service "TSM_Storageagent" running? Check from window services, share screenshot.

Also, I would appreciate if you open separate thread of each new issue for better monitoring.

Its saying "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process" so:

    - Have you make sure "dsmsta" was not running in foreground when you tried to start from window service?

    - Check Window event if that will give any hint.

    Hello Bharat,

Thanks When I double check and found one foreground service after killing that on eventvwr I am getting new error parameter is incorrect.

The Storageagent_Hyperv1 service failed to start due to the following error:
    The parameter is incorrect.

now I have deleted that parameter and below are the parameters which I am using pls advice if i am doing something wrong.

I am not using any account because I don't have local admin id password .

    Prem

    sc.exe create stagent_srv_name binPath= "path_to_sta"
    start= start_type obj= accountName password= password

Command you are referring is correct. What error you are receiving after delete and redefine the service?

    Hi Bharat,

Thank you so much for your response I am glad you are very helpful and supporting always it is been resolved now the only change which I did is use the below syntax and add the storage name into inverted commas although that was very surprising for me after that I am able to run service and all normal , Thank you once again for all your support.
