I have a plan to test the backup to restore to adhere the compliance prospective. But I am not able to find the active backup setup through GUI, although my backup is successfull from last so many days. Please point me to correct area what i am missing attaching the snapshot for refernece. I have attached one snapshot which shows backup was successful and another which is showing current mount point for specific node which i wanted to restore. pls let me know if any other details is required.

    Regards

More details are needed to help you! Are sure that the node in question is a member of the domain and associated to the schedule in your screenshot? Perhaps those files have not changed recently – remember TSM is a "incremental forever" backup system, so static files are not backed up again. In fact, if you're doing normal file level backups of vmdk images, they better be inactive and static.

    Hi Henrik,

Thanks for the response, yes it is a member of domain and associated with schedule I tried to restore from GUI I can see the old mount points although every day backup is schedule. I am sharing the snapshot of yesterday's schedule which completed with no error. but when i am going on gui console to restore the specific backup I am not able to point out anything of yesterday's date.

    Regards

    1. Have you checked that there are newer versions of the said files in the server?

    2. Are you sure they are not excluded?

    3.  Have you looked at dsmsched.log and dsmerror.log? If the vmdk files are VM images of running/live VMware virtual machines, they probably are changing all the time during backup, and are skipped by TSM with ANE4037 unless your mgmt class is configured for dynamic serialization (which is not the correct way to handle live VM images). Please note that TSM does not consider a scheduled backup job as failed even when there are skipped files (rc=4).

If you need to backup VMware virtual machines, you probably should read:

    Hi Henrik,

    1. I don't have answer of your first question because I don't know how to verify it.

    2. Yes I am pretty much sure this is not excluded .

    3. which article you have given that is for VMWare 5 and above where VCB replace into VDB. we are using VMWare 4.1.

I will explain the scenraio how the backup is executing and moving into tape. First script is running on schedule time that is on windows server on this server VMware proxy is installed which is responsible to bring the backup into same local server it's taking the snapshot of the vm but while moving the snapshot it's distributing one .vmdk file in many files. after that whenever the schedule is planned it pickup the vm backup from local server and move into tape. This is how it's happening .pls suggest what all things i can check now if you can provide the exact syntax it will be really helpful.

Note- The article you have given which applies on 7.1 virtual enviroments in my case that will not apply reason we are using lower version we had a discussion with VMWare and IBM also both are suggesting TSM version can be upgraded when VMWare will upgrade.
