Hi,

We have an ICN plugin requirement to customize an existing entry template in ICN and provide capability to upload multiple documents in one go, by maintaining separate metadata values per content for some selective metadata fields in the respective Document class, in an existing ICN entry template.

While we know that it is possible OOTB to upload multiple files by dragging / dropping multiple files to the Entry template and add them by which all the metadata values are same for all content elements.

Is it feasible to extend the Entry template using ICN plugins by which -

1) We can introduce / show multiple metadata fields (for some metadata fields) if user selects multiple files by using "Browse"

2) Add the respective documents to FileNet with respective different metadata values while using Entry template action in ICN.

Currently we are using ICN 3.0.3.iFix09, CPE 5.2.1.FP07 for the ECM stack.

Any idea or feedback on the feasibility is greatly appreciated.

I think this is something we are going to deliver in the near future, you could check the release note later this year. If you do it yourself through a plugin, there will be lots of work need to be done.

Thanks Jason for your clarification. For now, the users want to have only the value of "Description" separate per document when they want to add multiple documents using Entry template with ICN plugin (if this feature does not roll-out in future).

Will you be able to provide some directions (high-level is fine) if we need to achieve this using ICN plugin customization ? Even if we extend the entry template to show multiple fields when user selects multiple documents, is this achievable / feasible to save multi-docs in a single action, with different metadata values (for now, the requirement is to have only one field different i.e. Description) ?

Also it would be great if you have any info about any future ER for this feature ? We will also try to find out on the same by opening a new Case.

We're currently working on a new feature for the upcoming release which addresses what you're talking about here, i.e., capability to upload multiple documents in one go, and yet, allow users to enter different metadata values (to clarify - the same types of properties that you see today in the Add document dialog) for each document.

Like Sun mentioned, if you want to do this through a plugin, I would imagine that there will be a lot of work. Your plugin would need to present the users the properties pane for them to make modifications for each document, keep track of those properties values to use in the 'add' request for each document.

Just to add my own request for the same feature - the ability to upload several docs and apply the appropriate properties, would be a useful addition.
