  • 1.  Users Unable to run Report Views

    Posted Wed March 25, 2020 12:09 PM

    Hi,

We have developed reports and created report views which users can run. We have given them 'Run' permission on the reports for their user group security folder. We do not want them to be able to edit the repot views that is why we are using views.

Unfortunately, when we test with a user account we get the following error:

The report server encountered an internal error. Check additional information associated with this error message. If cause of problem cannot be ascertained, increase the logging level in the IBM Cognos administration tool and reproduce the conditions that caused the error. If the problem persists, see the problem determination information on the IBM Cognos Support Portal page at http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/Overview/Software/Information_Management/Cognos_Business_Intelligence.

Has anybody out there created a report view for users and run them successfully with 'Run' not 'Full' or Write' permissions?

    Thank You,

Hi, we are using Report Views with RUN rights. Make sure the users have also RUN rights on the source report and READ rights for folders of source reports. The folders can be hidden.

Had a similar issue, though your error message suggest perhaps something different at play. Here is what we did and it works just fine for cases where we did not want the users to be able to open the package for reporting, only run report views off of the package.

    Thank you Adrienne,

After much struggle, try and error, I managed to get it working. You are right it had to do with role and permissions and capabilities. Since admins could run the view I gave Run permission to the user group and execute capability. Then added the user group to the administrator group.

    Best
