    Highmark Health is an $18 Billion national health and wellness organization with over 35,000 employees who serve millions of Americans in all 50 states.We'll discuss how Highmark Health data science researchers and IBM Data Science Elite Team data scientists successfully collaborated together to build novel, claims-based models to predict members likely to experience a hospital admission due to sepsis.

    This 3-month advance warning model was deployed so that care teams have the opportunity to implement personalized interventions.

    We will also discuss how the Highmark team scaled that approach to rapidly respond to needs of Highmark during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the sepsis project concluded, the COVID-19 pandemic spread to the Highmark catchment area. The Highmark team was able to leverage the methods and models from the sepsis sprints to quickly build models to identify members of risk of ICU admissions due to COVID-19.

    This is a very interesting use case! I'm curious about how the predictions from the models are being operationalized in practice. Does Highmark have specific teams of "business users" who interpret the data and communicate the findings to doctors? Who would be the actual users of the REST APIs/applications?
