  • 1.  what version of RHEL are you running on Power vs non Power?

    Posted 03/02/26 06:15 AM

    Hi All,

Just wondered what versions of RHEL are being run on IBM Power and whether this was different to non-power? Also, when needing to install a new instance of RHEL what is considered your go to place (i.e. IBM Power VS, on-Prem IBM Power, public or private cloud or x86)?

    Many thanks in advance

    Hello James,

I had installed RHEL 8.8 a few years back. The architecture for IBM Power Systems is different — it uses ppc64le rather than the typical x86_64. In my case, the requirement was specifically to install the OS on an on-premises IBM Power10 processor-based server.

Please check the following link for RHEL version compatibility details:

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/linux-on-systems?topic=linuxonibm/liaam/liaamoverview.htm

Let me know if you need any assistance with the supported versions or installation steps.

    Thanks.

    Hi James,

here are some key resources to get you started:

To my knowledge, the versions of RHEL available for IBM Power are identical to those available for other architectures.

    Best regards
