  • 1.  WAS 9.0.5 ND - product roadmap/EOS/any major upgrades?

    Hi Team,

    We are currently using IBM WebSphere Application Server 9.0.5 ND / IBM MQ 9.4 LTS in our project. As part of our long-term infrastructure planning, we would like to understand IBM's future roadmap for these products.

    1.End of Support (EOS) timelines and future maintenance plans particularly for WAS 9.0.5 ND. Please provide if any un-official announcements ...
    2.Product roadmap and future direction for IBM WebSphere Application Server 9.0.5 and IBM MQ 9.4.
    3.Whether any major version upgrades or successor products are planned.
    4.Recommended migration or modernization strategy for existing customers.
    5.Any best practices or recommendations to help us align our current environment with IBM's future product strategy.

    This information will help us plan our technology roadmap and prepare for any future product transitions in a timely manner.

    We cannot talk about future products on the open internet.  You and your company should contact your local IBM representative.

    What I can tell you is that based on the IBM Lifecycle page IBM MQ 9.4 is on a support cycle 5 meaning there is at minimum 5 years of regular support before going into extended support. No dates have been announced right now.  MQ 10 was released last week.

    For tWAS v905, no announcement has been made about EOS and it will continue to run on Java 8.  If you want to modernise  and go to Liberty there are tools to help you do that so you can take advantage of Java from 8-26 and JavaEE6* to JakartaEE11 programming models along with MicroProfile.  We would recommend that you use Application Modernization Accelerator and then the Dev Tools or Bob with the Java Modernization extension Pack.  This is the strategy for customers on tWAS, JBoss EAP, WL, etc.
