    Unable to reply to Rob's response despite trying several methods, so startinga new thread.

    Rob,

    Many thanks for your early reply. 
    First the double dot issue. I must have been tired last night not to spot that. It did not stop things working though, which is strange.

    I have tested PING with using &SYSNAME in the member and it fails. So I think I agree with you that it appears that RESOLVER parameters do not make use of system symbols. I have now redesigned the struvture of those RESOLVER members in TCPPARMS and I can now handle multiple configurations. This is what I was trying to achieve.
