  • 1.  User Login Based access to Dashbaord using 12.0.1

    Posted Sat September 21, 2024 04:01 AM

Hi Team - We have a requirement where we have a dashboard that shows the status of ATM machines for each Branch, and we want to give every Branch access to the dashboard to see the status of their ATM machines without seeing other Branch ATM machines status . We have a Branch Filter on Dashboard , user Should see only his Branch on the Dashboard Filter.

Guideline to meet this highly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hi Hashim,

I assume you use a data module as source. In this case you would need security filters (linked to groups) for your data source. You can create them directly in the data module. See documentation here

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cognos-analytics/12.0.0?topic=sources-securing-data

    Hi Hashim,

the same concept applies also to Framework Manager packages. You can specify data security based on groups and roles within Framework Manager:

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cognos-analytics/12.0.0?topic=packages-security

I recommend to create filter objects in your project first which you can reuse for multiple tables - if necessary. Otherwise you can create local filter expressions for each table and data group you'd like to secure.

    Hi Rami,

what do you think is not possible here? Referring to data security you "just" need groups/roles in one of your Cognos name space which reflect the users and their data which you'd like to secure. Then apply these groups as security filters in Framework Manger projects or the data-source in data modules. Works - I use this for our accounting reports to secure the account table. The advantage of security filters in data modules directly on the data-source is that you can reuse them in other dm's metadata as well.
