  • 1.  Urgent: Unable to Download IBM i Access Client Solutions – Export Control Review Blocking Access

    Hello,

    I am trying to download IBM i Access Client Solutions from the official IBM support page.

    When attempting to download, I receive the following message:

    "This product is subject to strict US export control laws. Prior to providing access, we must validate whether you are eligible to receive it under an available US export authorization. Your request is being reviewed."

    After that, I sometimes receive:
    "Your request is not valid. Either you are attempting to access a resource that is no longer available or that you do not have permission to access."

    I am located in Israel and am trying to use IBM i Access Client Solutions for learning and development purposes only (5250 emulator, SQL scripts, basic system access).

    Could you please advise:
    - How long the export control review usually takes
    - Whether there is an alternative official way to obtain ACS
    - Or if any additional information is required from my side to complete the review

    Thank you for your assistance.

    I didn't knew there were still export restrictions on IBM i ACS (encryption).

    Anyway, have a look at /QIBM/ProdData/Access/ACS/Base on your IBM i ... it contains a copy of the software.

    The versions that can be downloaded from the link on the ACS home page:  https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/ibm-i-access-client-solutions  have always been export controlled for US-only and likely always will be.  The software should be downloaded, like all IBM i software, from the ESS site: Obtaining Access Client Solutions .  If you install the PTF for ACS, then you can use the version that Paul described.  The newest version 1.1.9.11 was just released today.  It will be available in ESS and as a PTF in 2 or 3 days.

    I have been able to and still can (just now) download the latest release of ACS image ZIP file from the ACS Home Page from my home in Thailand without any problem.  The only requirement is that I log on to the page with my IBM ID (The same one I use to log on to TechXchange Community web page.)   So, as long as one has an IBM ID, one should be able to download it. 

    My suspicion and guess is that the original poster had a problem with the download may be because IBM may prevent the download from IP addresses from "restricted" countries according to IBM's export regulation rules that I knew about when I was an IBM employee ???   Can you find this out from your colleague who knows about IBM export regulation?   But I do not think Israel is such a restricted country!
