  • 1.  Scheduler compliance - is it really telling the truth for the number of Plan Work Records in GS?

    Posted Mon May 09, 2022 02:47 AM
Scenario: 100 work orders - 50 of which are scheduled and approved in a given month.  Three of them were approved, prior to the month's start, but are scheduled to be done on the first day of the month.  NB: This is a non-rolling project.

Using a manual start/stopped compliance schedule, I started the compliance on the 4th day of the month, days 1 and 2 were the weekend and day 3 was a holiday, so not around to start on day 1.  So, on day 4 at 11:03 AM I start off the compliance with a period of 1 month i.e. 1st of April t o 1st of May.

The number of Plan Work Records = 47, not 50!

The activities in the Graphical view show based on filtering that there are 50, so why are only 47 being monitored.  NB: I can see that ones are being monitored using the SKDCOMPLIANCEWOLIST table.

Looking at the three not being monitored, it would appear that in fact they were completed at 10:25 AM on the 4th day, So, "just" before the compliance was started.

    QUESTION 1
Should the three records have been included?  I ask because they are scheduled for the first day of the month.

    QUESTION 2
Should the schedule have been refreshed before starting?

Hi Craig, thanks for your post, more than welcome to answer your questions.

    QUESTION 1
Should the three records have been included?  I ask because they are scheduled for the first day of the month.
Today's at the selection of the Work for Compliance period we take into account the Start and End Dates and Time as parameters to include and exclude Work. So in your scenario, the work that is on the First Day of the Month (assume that is 1st of May) and as you mentioned the Compliance Start period is the point current to day 4 at 11:03 AM, with that as design the 3 records will be out of the compliance scenario, as a recommendation if possible I will suggest you to start the compliance right at the 1st of May at midnight. This way all the 50 records will be included as you expected.

    QUESTION 2
Should the schedule have been refreshed before starting?
My recommendation is yes, the Refresh is really a good point to start, for Schedules that already have the Flag "Refresh When Opening Gantt View?" as true, that is already handled every time the Graphical View opens and it can be done over the Rolling project once we have the Refresh of the Schedule at this level. We didn't introduce the Refresh control directly with the Compliance Cron Task, but that could be a good point of improvement, this way we could get modified records as it happens. Let me know your perspective on that area.

    Hi Pedro,

Yes, it would be smart to include a refresh regardless whether the schedule is rolling or not.

For Q1 answer, the client is setting up these as non-rolling projects, and this wants to manually start and stop the compliance.

So refreshing at midnight exactly and then setting the new period of compliance is not possible.  The client may stop the old period and start a new continuous period on day 4 due to the weekend and a holiday and just don't want to get out of bed until sometime on day 4.

I have recommended to change to rolling, but my question is for a non-rolling project.

Hi Craig, thanks again for the feedback, and as I review that with @BRIAN Downey that really makes sense to have the Refresh Automatically with the Compliance Frequency and let the system handle that, special at the Non-Rolling project.

Could I ask you to open a simple Idea that we can track internally with the developer team about this change? thanks again.
