  • 1.  Power 10 withdrawal from marketing

    Posted Tue January 13, 2026 09:17 AM
Effective 31 July 2026, the following Machine type models are being withdrawn:
    Power E1050 9043 MRX
    Power E1080 9080 HEX
    Power S1022 9105 22A
    Power S1022s 9105 22B
    Power S1014 9105 41B
    Power S1024 9105 42A
    Power L1022 9786 22H
    Power L1024 9786 42H

I think the half wide S1012 is spared.  As it is currently the only IBM i P05 level machine available.

I get why they are cancelling the availability of the various 5 year support contracts on the 1080 but not the one year ones.

    Consolidation?

    Probably a successor may arrive.

The S1014 4-core is a P05 model, and was quite popular (at least with many of my customers).  It's full width footprint offered some advantages that most customers appreciated, while keeping in the P05 tier.  I have yet to sell an S1012 due to the size constraints (fewer cards, fewer card slots) - but we sold a lot of the S1014 last year.

I am hopeful that a new Power11 full-size equivalent is going to be announced soon to fit the P05 tier.

The clock begins ticking on support now.  Previous generations were still supported for approx 4 - 5 year after being withdrawn from marketing.
I do hope that some of the POWER11 features like Autonomous Error Resolution get folded into POWER10 as well.
