I am an Electronics Engineer worked in the field for about 15 years. Part of that work was in the oil sector in Kuwait for around 7 years. Later on working as Business Consultant for over 10 years now. Currently, I am based in Newcastle, Australia.
I started my mainframes journey about 8 months ago. I chose to focus on mainframes because I wanted a highly scalable career path that matched my energy and passion for continuous learning. I started my learning with IBM Z Xplore. I am truly grateful to the wonderful platform and of course to IBM for providing free mainframe enterprise grade connection and resources to acquire the skills. I couldn't have hoped for anything better! So far I have earned IBM Z Xplore Concepts, Advanced and All Star badges. I have completed all the four Open Mainframe Projects. Recently, I realized I have completed over 60 hands-on challenges including OMPs!
Following my advanced technical training, I have focused my career path toward Systems Administrator and Database Administrator roles. A Systems Administration track directly leverages my electronics engineering background, where I developed a strong foundational mastery of complex system architectures and diagnostics. A prime example of this systems-thinking is my work with the Open Mainframe Project (OMP), where I successfully established an automated CI/CD pipeline between GitHub and mainframe USS. This involved configuring workflows using YAML and orchestrating seamless file transfers via Zowe commands embedded in custom bash shell scripts.
Having mastered advanced system and database concepts through rigorous hands-on technical platform of IBM Z Xplore and open-source mainframe projects, I am now ready to transition into a commercial System Administrator or DBA role. My extensive background in electronics engineering has equipped me with strong systems-thinking and diagnostic skills, ensuring I can adapt rapidly to any enterprise environment and deliver reliable technical value from day one.
