  • 1.  PAW Book: Images/Media/URL widgets show blank (nothing displayed)

    Posted Mon January 05, 2026 12:25 PM

    Hi all,
    In IBM Planning Analytics Workspace (PAW), when I create a Book and add Picture, Media, or Web Page (URL) widgets, the widget frame appears but the content is blank (nothing renders), even with HTTPS URLs.

    I attached a screenshot showing several tests where nothing displays.

    Has anyone encountered this? Any ideas on what to check?

    Thanks!

    Not sure if it is related but our books across multiple servers and platforms on different workspace versions are not rendering correctly, images will not display among other things

    Seems fine on my Dev server running 2.1.14.

    Could you be blocked by a proxy, outgoing firewall etc?

    Have you got and local URLs you can point to e.g. on an intranet or similar that would not require a proxy?
    Any other information you can give us in terms of versions, infrastructure etc?

    Hi Mark / George, thanks for the feedback!

    @Mark Wragg: it may be related though I don't know where the cause comes from

    @George Tonkin: In our case:

    PAW 2.0.106 -> installed on a Windows 2019 Server

    Planning Analytics Local: 2.0.9.23

    Browser: Chrome on my local computer

    I think there is a proxy and firewall configured by the company.

    I use a VPN (otherwise, I can't access PAW)

    I don't have or don't know where I can find a "local" https URL. πŸ˜…

    I think someone in the InfoSec team will need to review and offer guidance/add exceptions to the firewall/proxy etc.

    I suspect the 153 error might be related to the youtube video itself.  There is an option the video owner can set to determine if the video can be embedded.

    If this is Planning Analytics Workspace local I would also look at the paw.ps1 or paw.env configuration file. It's possible the CSP_FRAME_ANCESTORS configuration setting has some impact on this.

    Hi Stuart, thanks.

    YouTube embed / error 153
    Good point on YouTube: the YouTube embed link returns error 153 on our corporate PC/network (with OR without VPN), but the same link works fine on my personal/home network. For the 153, I tested it exactly as you suggested by opening the direct embed URL in the browser. I got that embed URL via YouTube β†’ Share β†’ Embed (copying the src from the iframe).

    I tried with this great video about the new features for PAfE : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXoD9mLZHJc&list=PL_4RxtD-BL5tZgbo183QO5ivMwyWlZgjJ&index=1

    Here is the embed link I got from it: https://www.youtube.com/embed/VXoD9mLZHJc?si=s63TAIIqzmlsRCqa

    This makes me think it's less about the video owner disabling embedding, and more likely a proxy/firewall/InfoSec restriction (or something altering/blocking the requests) on the corporate environment.

    PAW local config / CSP
    Since this is PAW Local (2.0.9.23), I checked paw.ps1 (for Windows) as well, but I don't see any CSP_FRAME_ANCESTORS parameter in our setup.
    If you have a recommended/default value for CSP_FRAME_ANCESTORS (or other CSP settings) for PAW 2.0.x, I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks again!

    Hi George,

    We're on a corporate network, so I'll ask our InfoSec/Network team to review whether the proxy/firewall is blocking outbound content for PAW Books (images/media/web pages). I'll share any findings (allowlist/exception requirements) back here.

    Our issue was that following an audit by Azure  our Cyber Security team put a public block on our storage accounts.

    We had to ask for exceptions!
