  • 1.  Must I have EzNoSQL to use AI-powered WLM initiators?

    Hi,

I was reading the latest z/OS 3.1 Update presentation from the TechBytes 2023 site owned by WSC and saw a picture, which I've attached, that shows the new AI System Services being used by the AI-powered WLM initiators that are a new feature with z/OS 3.1.  It also shows EzNoSQL, but it's not clear whether EzNoSQL is required by the AI-powered WLM initiators.

I'm asking as I believe the EzNoSQL requires a Coupling Facility, which most of my clients don't yet have, so that if EzNoSQL is mandatory for AI-powered WLM initiators, they won't be able to use it without a significant change to their environment.

Is this the best place to ask?  Or should I try elsewhere?

    Kind regards,
    Peter

    Hi Peter,

It does seem that AI-powered WLM intiators will need EzNoSQL which requires a coupling facility. Please see: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/zos/3.1.0?topic=installation-hardware-software-requirements

I'm not sure if there is a way around this requirement.

    Hi Artem,

yes, I agree, I later found the page called "Hardware and Software requirements" in the "Infusing AI into z/OS" book which says EzNoSQL is a requirement, along with its CF.

This page has the details:  https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/zos/3.1.0?topic=installation-hardware-software-requirements

It seems a lot to ask of smaller customers who might want AI-powered WLM initiators.  Perhaps IBM could offer low-cost or even "free" ICFs to enable these customers to have the required pre-requisite, or better yet, relax it if the input is only SMF records as seems the case.

At any rate, at least I have confirmed the current state, with your help, which is much appreciated.

    Kind regards,
    Peter
