LTO-10 drives available for TS4300 libraries purchased in 2024 and 2025

    Howdy,

    LTO-10 drives are available in TS4500 and Diamondback Libraries since 2025-06-13 with 30 TB cartridges.

    40 TB cartridges with extended environmental parameters are available since 2026-03-06.

    Since existing Machine Type 3555 TS4300 libraries didn't support LTO-10 drives yet, those became available to the modular rackable environment only with new M/T 3555 TS4300 libraries with Expert Care, avaliable since 2025-12-05.

    Announced yesterday, "old" TS4300 libraries with Machine Type 3555 purchased in 2024 and 2025 also are a candidate for LTO-10 drives - via special priced request 8B3810. (So, what if a customer purchased a 3555 in 2026 "by accident" ?)

    While the 3555 library is being sold unitl end of this year, you should head to a new M/T 5544 Epert Care library instead.
    3U expansion drawers as expansions for existing 3555 TS4300 continue to be sold even after end of the year.

    A LTO-10 drive ist Full Height everywhere, so it occupies 2U in a controller or drawer. The remaining 1U space could be used for a Half Height drive or intentionally left blank.

    Hi Ilja, 
    Thank you very much for this post. I'm Product Manager for Entry and Mid-Range libraries.
    New MT for TS4300 is 5544. LTO-10 FH drive for old MT 3555 is only for the libraries that were purchased in 2024 or 2025 through the special RPQ process currently being enabled.
    MT 3555 libraries purchased in 2026 are not eligible for LTO-10 support. 
    Effective WFM for 3555-L3A base module as you mentioned is December 31 2026, while for the 3555-E3A expansion module is 4Q2027.

    Dear Marcela,

     

    thanks a lot for your reply.

    Might I please ask you about reasons not to offer 6U drawers of the bdt MULTISTAK library, since they don't waste 1U space per LTO10 drive?

    In fact, a 2U scalable product would be the best fit for most of our customers, not 3U.
