    Hello all,

    I would like to know what editions of IDS I can use for free in a production site. 

    From what I heard, for that purpose I cannot use a Developer Edition, and the best option would be an Innovator Edition.

    So I would like to confirm that and also know more about these editions limitations.

    i have one additional question... maybe its pretty outdated but i still know some older colleges mention that Informix licenses were bound to a phsical adress where the licenese was installed/used ? Is it correct? But this isnt anymore... i can´t find such restrictions?

    I don't think that that was ever a thing. Perhaps back in the Informix Corp. days when the license number was bound into the executable, though I don't remember that restriction, but certainly not in the IBM era. No, Informix licenses are portable from machine to machine.

    Yes, in the 90' you received a DAT tape when you requested the software . Together with the tape you got a license letter with an install key.

    During installation process you had to type License Serial # and Key
    License Serial number have format: 3 letters, # sign, letter, 6 figures
    (and letter following # sign means number of licenced users​)
    During installation all (or most of) executables were "branded" with this Serial number.
    But after that you could transfer $INFORMIXDIR to other (same HW/SW) machine and it would work.
