If I order a new FS7300 what release does it come with?

    Our current FS7300 is running 8.7.0.6.  If I order another FS7300 for another DC what release will it come with?

    9.1.0.x?  8.7.0.x? ?

    Hi Robert,

    a view weeks ago i installed a FS7300 which was delivered with version 8.7.x .... but even the new hardware will come with version 9.1.x it is possible to reinstall a version 8.7.x code.

    I'm trying to think of any reason why I'd want to downgrade it.  Generally we're very receptive to new releases, etc.  Maybe if the new one works well we might upgrade the old one to the new level.  We're not initially setting these up with replication, etc between the two.  That may come up on the horizon shortly.  New boss has signed up for the December 3 tour at IBM i Guided Tours

    Hi Robert, some time ago, I had a conversation with an IBM Sales guy and he told me that from the Configurator, you can choose what firmware the IBM Virtualize will come from factory.
    So, if you have one in 8.7.x, you could ask from another in the same firmware level.
    I am not from Sales but I forward this info at that moment. Maybe ask someone from IBM to know if this it is true, so you can choose with confident.

    Hi Nezih, I wanted to do a doble-check with the contact, and indeed, from e-Config you cannot select the version for IBM FlashSystems, but you can select it for an IBM DS8K or IBM VTS.

    Don´t mixup eConfig, who builds orderable configurations and STORM. STORM is for modelling Capacities and performance. Within STORM, you can select different Releases to enable for instance PbHA in the workload list of mirroring. STORM will tell you, if the selected Release is not delivery standard (at the moment of STORM was released), if you do a chenge away from default

    The only reason to downgrade it that I can think of is if you still need to use legacy remote copy solutions (Metro Mirror or Global Mirror).  8.7.0.x is the last release supported for those technologies.  If you are using Policy Based Replication, the newest release is most likely where you want to be.

    Follow up.  Both FS7300's are at 8.7.0.9.  Cannot remember why the consultant set up the new one at that instead of 9.

    The 8.7.0.9 level allows you to continue to use the legacy *RemoteCopy, while v9.1.x.x only works with policy-based replication.  That would be the primary reason to not upgrade to v9.
    Sorry for the confusion...I meant remote copy not flashcopy.

    Legacy REPLICATION, not Legacy FLASHCOPY.  8.7.0 is the terminal release for Global Mirror, Metro Mirror and Hyperswap, but Legacy Flashcopy is still available in 9.x

    I see this misunderstanding frequently.

    Neither Flash System sends data to the other.  Any replication between IBM Power systems on one to the IBM Power systems on the other are completed using software replication (like QuickEDD).  So I'm guessing the above from Lance does not apply?
