IDS 14.10.FC13 compatibility with other Informix tools

    Hi Experts,

    We plan to upgrade current IDS 12.10.FC10 to IDS 14.10.FC13 on AIX 7.2 and noticed that apart from IDS 12.10.fc10 we have other installations (below) on the same AIX server.

    We are in the planning stage & would like to know if all these tools below are compatible with IDS14.10.FC13 or do these also require update. If update is must then please let me know which versions are compatible with 14.10

    All of those products are compatible with IDS v14.10.FC13. However, the CSDK which contains all of the following:

    IBM/Informix C++ API 4.10.FC10
    IBM/Informix EMBEDDED SQL for C Version 4.10.FC10
    IBM/Informix LIBASF LIBRARY Version 4.10.FC10
    IBM/Informix LIBDMI LIBRARY Version 4.10.FC10
    IBM/Informix LIBGEN LIBRARY Version 4.10.FC10
    IBM/Informix LIBOS LIBRARY Version 4.10.FC10
    IBM/Informix LIBSQL LIBRARY Version 4.10.FC10
    IBM/Informix ODBC LIBRARY Version 4.10.FC10
    IBM/Informix-Client SDK Version 4.10.FC10
    INFORMIX LIBGLS LIBRARY Version 6.00.FC11

    should be upgraded to the CSDK v4.50.<latest>, if for no other reason than because it will support any new features in v14.10 that did not exist in v12.10 for which the CSDK v4.10 was built.

    If you use sqlhosts with the CSDK then either use 4.50.12 or wait for the new version 4.50.14 tentatively scheduled for release a week from today.  Using CSDK 4.50.13 and above with sqlhosts will return an Error -79716.

    Hi Daniel,

    Can you clarify what you mean: 
    Is there a problem with CSDK 4.50.13 in combination with Informix 14.10.13 or other versions?
    What is the PMR number for this problem and why do we have to wait for CSDK 4.50.14 and Informix 14.10.14.

    Оne of our clients wants to migrate soon то 14.10.13 and I am interested in information about all the problems fixed or not in this version.

    I know and I have read fix list. Are there any unfixed bugs that you personally know about?

    We are receiving Error -79716 using SQLHOSTS with JDBC 4.50.13 and above.  No problem with SQLHOSTS using JDBC 4.50.12.

    Our case number was TS021192080.  According to tech support, the sqlhosts fix will be in the CSDK release scheduled for this coming Thursday.

    Separately, we have been unable to apply fixes packs to go from Workgroups 14.10.11 to 14.10.13 because it reverts to the developer edition when the fixpack is appied and the Workgroup licenses are not provided for 14.10.12 or 14.10.13.

    I've been checking since Thursday and I haven't seen it either.  I did ask tech support for an updated release schedule earlier today.

    Hi Syed,

    You should be just fine. 

    You can try the 4gl demo program and run it on the migrated Informix IDS  14.10.FC13 if you want. Informix SQL is a product that does not evolve and should work just fine.

    Thank you for sharing your plans to upgrade the database environment from Informix IDS 12.10.FC10 to IDS 14.10.FC13 on AIX 7.2.

    From a FourJs / Genero and modernization perspective, please find our observations below:

    1.Existing Informix 4GL and SQL Tools
       The following tools are compatible with **IDS 14.10.FC13** and do **not require a mandatory upgrade** as part of the database migration:

     * IBM Informix-4GL (7.51.FC2)
    * Informix-4GL Interactive Debugger (7.51.FC2)
    * Informix-4GL Rapid Development System (7.51.FC2)
    * IBM Informix-SQL (7.51.FC2)

     These tools are expected to continue functioning normally after the IDS upgrade.

     2. Client SDK and Libraries – Recommended for Genero Alignment
       If the environment uses **client-side components** such as ESQL/C, ODBC, C/C++ APIs, or related Informix client libraries, we strongly recommend upgrading the **Informix Client SDK (CSDK)** to a version aligned with IDS 14.10.

     * Recommended version: **Informix Client SDK 4.50 (latest fix pack, e.g., FC13 or higher) **

    This alignment is particularly important for customers who are:

    * Planning or evaluating **Genero-based modernization
    * Migrating Informix 4GL applications to **Genero BDL
    * Integrating modern UI, web, or REST-based architectures

    Using a current Client SDK ensures stability, better interoperability, and smoother coexistence with **Genero runtime and drivers**.

    3. Genero and Modernization Readiness
       Upgrading to **IDS 14.10** provides a strong and fully supported foundation for:

     * Modernizing legacy Informix 4GL applications using **Genero**
    * Gradual migration (coexistence of Informix 4GL and Genero)
    * Enhancing applications with modern UI, web, and service-oriented capabilities while preserving business logic

     No immediate changes to existing 4GL applications are required as part of the IDS upgrade; however, aligning client components now will simplify future modernization initiatives.

     4. Recommended Next Steps

     * Proceed with the IDS upgrade to **14.10.FC13** on AIX 7.2
    * Plan the **Client SDK upgrade** alongside or shortly after the server upgrade
    * Validate application connectivity and workflows
    * Optionally assess readiness for **Genero-based modernization** at a later stage
