  • 1.  How Can IBM Training Help Developers and IT Professionals Strengthen Enterprise Technology Skills?

    Posted 08/11/26 12:16 PM

    Hello IBM Community Members,

As enterprise technologies continue to evolve, developers and IT professionals need to continuously strengthen their skills across Artificial Intelligence, Hybrid Cloud, cybersecurity, data, software engineering, automation, cloud computing, and enterprise technologies.

IBM Training provides structured learning opportunities that can help professionals develop technical knowledge, explore emerging technologies, build practical skills, and support continuous professional development.

Some areas that make IBM Training valuable include:

    ✅ Structured technical learning paths

    ✅ Role-based learning opportunities

✅ Hands-on and practical technical learning

✅ IBM certifications and digital credentials

✅ AI and Generative AI learning

✅ Hybrid Cloud and cloud-native technologies

✅ Software engineering and application development

✅ Cybersecurity, data, analytics, and automation

✅ Enterprise technology and digital transformation skills

✅ Continuous learning and workforce upskilling

From my perspective, IBM Training can help bridge the gap between technical learning and real-world enterprise technology by giving professionals opportunities to understand how modern technologies are applied across enterprise environments.

I'd Love to Hear Your Perspectives:

    • What makes IBM Training valuable for developers and IT professionals?

    • Which IBM Training course, learning path, or certification has been most useful to you?

    • Which technology area are you currently learning - AI, Hybrid Cloud, cybersecurity, data, software engineering, or automation?

    • Do you prefer structured learning paths, hands-on learning, certifications, or individual courses?

    • How can IBM Training help professionals prepare for the future of enterprise technology?

    • What IBM Training resources would you recommend to someone beginning their technology learning journey?

    • Which IBM Training path or certification is most valuable for AI and Hybrid Cloud skills?

    • How can IBM Training help professionals keep pace with evolving AI, cloud, and enterprise technologies?

I look forward to hearing your experiences, recommendations, and perspectives and continuing the conversation around enterprise technology skills, continuous learning, professional development, and workforce upskilling within the IBM Community.

    Thank you, and happy discussing!

I agree with your perspective that IBM Training can help facilitate technical learning to professionals and I do think that this is an interesting post.

I do think that it's worth acknowledging there are multiple routes for IBM-affiliated Training including Skillsbuild, Mainframe Skills Depot, Interskill, Coursera, and other courses provided by the likes of RSM Tech, Verhoef, etc...

    • Mainframe Skills Depot is a fantastic example of a training platform that provides structured learning paths, many of which are based upon technical roles.
    • Interskill, on the other hand, is a fantastic example of a training platform that provides numerous learning courses/modules which each cater to a specific technology/product.

Neither is necessarily 'better' than the other, but they each have a different use-case and they each cater to slightly different needs.

I predominantly focus on learning about the technologies of z/OS and RACF, but I also like to learn about more holistic topics including Cybersecurity and Resiliency.

My personal preference is to follow a structured learning path which includes some hands-on learning or some more practical/vocational challenges:  For example, I enjoy the Interskill quizzes but I particularly appreciate the challenges where they have a simulated Green Screen and expect users to type commands, so shorthand is viable for use (e.g. LU rather than LISTUSER) but they still need to provide the correct syntax and operands.

Admittedly I cannot say with confidence whether any one series of learning modules has proven more useful in my career than any other, but I will say that it has been rewarding to continue my learning journey and to accrue badges/certification for my digital portfolio!

Thank you @Ankur Bhattacharya for providing this prompt that we might discuss! 🙏

Great discussion, Ankur. One thing I've learned working across enterprise infrastructure is that training becomes most valuable when you can immediately connect it to a real operational problem. That's where I see the value of IBM Training. Combining structured learning with hands-on exposure across areas like IBM Z, Hybrid Cloud, AI, automation, and cybersecurity. Certifications are valuable milestones, but the bigger win is developing skills you can actually apply when designing, operating, and modernizing enterprise environments.

I think the biggest value comes from combining structured learning with hands-on practice. A course or certification can build the foundation, but applying those skills to real projects makes the learning much more useful. For someone starting out, I'd recommend choosing one area aligned with their career goals and following a focused learning path rather than trying to learn everything at once.
