  • 1.  FS7300: Recommended upgrade.

    Posted 05/12/26 09:39 AM

I have two FS7300's.  They are both at 8.7.0.9.  One has it's drives at 3_1_15.  The other has it's drives at 4_4_4.

I may want to avoid 8.7.0.11 as that complicates ever going to 9.  As per:  https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/concurrent-compatibility-and-code-cross-reference-ibm-storage-virtualize#_V8.7.0

Is upgrading to level 9 disruptive?  I've done a few lower updates and it went very smooth.  I'm trying to see if it is comparable to a VIOS update from 3.x to 3.y as opposed to a VIOS upgrade from 3.x to 4.a.  That's a whole different process.

Do you recommend 8.7.0.10 or going to 9.1.0.5?

Two Power 10's at the site with drive firmware 3_1_15.  One Power 11 at the site with drive firmware 4_4_4.  The first site is using IBM Lab Services  Safeguarded Copy for IBM i toolkit.  And IBM Copy Services Manager 6.3.14.0.  The second site isn't doing any of that.

Outside of the Safeguarded Copy stuff we are not using any other FlashCopy.  We are doing software replication using QuickEDD.

    Hi Robert,

The recommended and latest level for FCM3 drives is 3_1_15. The latest and recommended code level for the FCM4 is 4_4_5.

Drive firmware is no problem.  I only mentioned that as a point of reference.  I was more concerned about 8.7 vs 9.

The upgrade from 8.7.0.x to 9.1.0.x is not disruptive. I upgraded two FS9500s from 8.7.0.7 to 9.1.0.1 without any issue.

    Hi everyone,

Yesterday I updated an FS7200 from version 8.5.0x to 9.1.0.3. The update occurred without interruption.

First, I updated from version 8.5.0x to 8.7.0.10, as version 8.7.0.11 is not compatible with 9.1.0x. After that, I updated from version 8.7.0.10 to 9.1.0.3 without any downtime.
Only you need verify host's paths to confirm that all good.
    Thanks and regards.
