Framework Manage - any short cut to adding column/field descriptions for a table with many columns?

I have a really wide table (lots of columns/fields) that was added to FM. Now I need to enter a description for each column. I have a list of each column name and its associated description that is in the same order as the list columns in FM. Is there an easy/short cut way to enter descriptions for multiple columns without having to click on each column individually?

I haven't had to do this. But I would try using Power Automate.

Quick tip that might be helpful for you. You can check out the FM SDK documentation to manage FM via scripts. It provides detailed guidelines and examples on how to handle various fields and automate processes efficiently.

To make things even easier, you can start with a couple of fields and then take the script into your favorite GenAI tool to generate the rest of the fields. This approach can save you time and effort while ensuring accuracy and consistency.

    Hi Brenda -

You can try to export a translation file and see if this does what you want.  (Project > Languages > export file>.

In previous versions, you would be able to export the list of objects to an excel file, modify the description, screen tips and what not - then import the changes back into the model.

    I hope this helps.

Check BmtScriptPlayer - it's a command line tool that can playback FM transaction logs.

When you do something in FM, it's recorded in the transaction log (XML). You can modify a column description manually, check the transaction log and mimic the same actions from your description file. You could probably generate a python script in chatgpt to translate your description file to the XML log that can be read by the script player.

Make sure to backup your model before running the script ;)

    Hi Brenda,

I have done this before using multiple languages and translation exports. Message me if you want me to jump on a quick call and show you.

    Thanks,

    Nipun
