  • 1.  Disable offline mode in Anywhere Work Technician?

    Anywhere 7.6.4:

Is there a way to disable offline mode in Anywhere Work Technician?

    Reasons:
    1. We have full cell/data coverage; we don't need to worry about connectivity problems. Offline mode is unnecessary.
    2. Even with training, inexperienced users might accidently use offline mode, which would cause unnecessary headaches - and is untested by my organization.

    Thanks.

I've never attempted to do this, but the action to force it offline appears to be defined here: MaximoAnywhere\apps\WorkExecution\platform-artifacts\configuration\app.xml. You may be able to simply remove the "Enable Offline Mode" action and rebuild the apps and it might go away but it's not something I've tested.

Regardless, the app can and still will support going offline. This would just prevent a user from taking the action to force it inside the app, but if network connectivity was lost for some reason (Maximo was down, lost cellular, etc.) the app would still go into offline mode. In the scenario that it's done based on loss of connectivity, there's a heartbeat setting that will determine how often it tries to reconnect to Maximo and when it can reconnect it will send in anything that was done offline.

If the main push for this request is so your users do not click on the enable offline mode, then how about hiding the attribute? This would be a better option and as Steven has stated, still allow the app to work in offline mode should there come a time where a user is truly in a place with no connectivity.
