Hi Jen,
Does your report have a lot of extensive formatting and/or charts on it? With charts, export to Excel will also include hidden tabs which contain the actual underlying data tables that populate those charts. If there are a lot of them with lots of chart elements, these could be a bottleneck in you Excel processing, even though the visible outputs might not look like much.
If there are other unnecessary layout components that you could exclude from the Excel output, I will typically apply a conditional rendering that hides those objects when the output type is Excel.

There are 2 options. Run Excel and Run Excel Data. I need the Run Excel option because I need the formatting applied to the Cognos report to be kept.
