    Hi Kushal,

      Not are the same.

self-signed certificates, are related with who sign the certificate, in this case the "issue by" and "issue to" are the same.

Self-signed certificates are for use with a peer in a controlled environment, such as internal network communications. To complete a handshake, you must first send a copy of the entity certificate to every peer that connects to the entity.

Personal certificates, represents a User ID

A personal certificate without a private key is a certificate that represents the entity that owns it during a handshake (could be self-signed). Personal certificates contain both public and private keys.

        Hope this helps

    regards

Just for your understanding .. don't take everything by word :-)

    Personal certs are two types
    1. Self-signed
    2. Signed by Certificate authority

Self-signed cert is a certificte which you sign for yourself
Other personal certs are signed by a trsuted and authorized Certificate Authorities who also provide signer certificates. example are verisign, digicert etc..

    Coming to difference:
Self-signed are like you signing your own graduation certificate. It will be okey for your use but can every one trust it ?

certs Signed by CA are like your graduation certificate signed and obtained from valid and registered university.
