Hi TM1 / Planning Analytics Community,
I just submitted a new idea to the IBM Data and AI Ideas Portal for Planning Analytics – it addresses a common pain point with outdated PAfE versions causing performance issues on the server.
Idea Title: Add GUI-based enforcement of minimum client version for Planning Analytics for Excel (PAfE)
Short summary: In older TM1 versions, we could block outdated clients via ClientVersionMinimum in tm1s.cfg. This parameter is now fully deprecated and no longer available in current releases (PA 2.1 / v11 and the new v12 engine, including cloud).
Today, we can only monitor old PAfE versions in logs/reports and manually chase users – there's no central way to block them. This leads to higher RAM usage, longer loading times for views/explorations in Excel, and unnecessary server load.
Requested feature: A simple GUI setting in the Planning Analytics Administration tool (or PAW Admin) to:
- Define a minimum supported PAfE version
- Automatically block older clients with a friendly error message
- Optional: Auto-email notifications to users/admins
- Integrate with existing monitoring
Benefits: Better performance, less manual admin work, improved security, and faster adoption of new PAfE releases.

Please vote if you think this would be useful! Every vote helps to get it on IBM's radar.
What do you think? Have you run into the same issues with old PAfE clients dragging down server performance?
Thanks everyone!
