About 2.0.9 vs 2.1.x perspective architect pmpsvc

  • 1.  About 2.0.9 vs 2.1.x perspective architect pmpsvc

    Posted Tue January 06, 2026 10:33 AM

    Hello Everybody !

Always anxious by nature, until everything is under control...
I am preparing my latest alarming communications to my clients.
Some have already migrated to 2.1.x.
Some are on 2.0.x and do not have "workspace" licenses.
Some are on 2.0.9 and use a monstrous workflow application (with PMPSVC).

Now there is the issue of the famous security certificate that expires in June 2026, but fortunately this only applies to older versions. For recent versions (2.0.9, 2.1.x), there is another certificate that expires in 2035 (like the sale of combustion engine cars in Europe!).

Therefore, I have to migrate my last clients to version 2.1.x.
Those who have access to the workspace can use PAFE after a few hiccups due to missing features (reporting, sandbox).
For those who don't have access to the workspace, I tested it and... miracle of miracles, Perspective and Architect continue to work!

Now there's still the issue of my clients who use huge workflow applications (pmpsvc) and who don't want (at all) to redevelop their entire workflow in the workspace.
    I have two options:
1 – Keep them on the latest version of 2.0.9 and hope that everything goes well, particularly in terms of security certificates.
2 – Migrate them to 2.1.x and install (in another directory) the latest version 2.0.9 of
    - Cognos TM1 (to have pmpsvc)
    -    Performande Modeler
    -    Perspective and Architect (possibly)
I'm going to set up a VM under Windows 2022 and do all my tests, and I'll be sure to get back to you πŸ˜‰

    Best regards,
    Philippe

    Hi Philippe,

Important to note that IBM is not testing Architect and Perspectives with TM1 from the newer 2.1 releases.  Although we didn't change or remove the API used by the legacy desktop tools, they are no longer tested. IBM will not support using software components from the 2.0.9 release with Planning Analytics 2.1.

We are starting to replace a lot of the TM1 Applications functionality in Workspace Plans.  See: Migrating from TM1 Applications to Workspace Plans.

This might be a good reason to reconsider deploying Planning Analytics Workspace.

    Hello Stuart,
Thank you very very much for your reply, which will enable me to be extremely precise in my communications with my clients.

It will be up to them to weigh the benefits and risks, taking into account:
    - The (enormous!) workload involved in redeveloping their workflows
    - IBM's lack of guarantee regarding the correct functioning of the 2.0.9 tools against tm1 2.1.x
    - Whether or not they have the right to install and use Workspace when their licenses are only for "tm1" (not Workspace)

I have a duty to discuss all the alternatives with them, along with the associated risks. "The customer is king", and ultimately it is they who will decide.

    Kind regards,
    Philippe
