[IBM Canada Technical Meetup] Equity Focused Explainability: equitable outcomes from AI models

 View Only
When:  Apr 28, 2022 from 03:30 PM to 04:30 PM (ET)

Systemic disparities along lines of race, gender, and related dimensions are major societal challenges. When applying AI solutions for decision-making, it is desired that AI models and the systems in which they operate should counteract systemic factors that make it more difficult to deliver equity. This requires:
a) increasing awareness of how disparities are replicated and amplified in systems,
b) education about what actions can be taken to support fairness and equity, and
c) equity-focused action to enhance these systems.

In this session, you will have the opportunity to gain insight into work to understand how we can evolve AI model development to include demonstrable and quantifiable elements of human-centric equity and fairness and to be able to explain these to stakeholders and sponsors.

Our thesis is that digitized systemic factors may inadvertently contribute to massive cross-group disparities and missed economic opportunities. We intend to reveal novel considerations related to AI policies and systems which may avoid the replication and pass-through of disparities as they impact a broad range of constituents affected by the outcomes of these AI policies and systems. The goal is to establish parameters against which AI models and offerings can be designed, developed, and deployed so that quantifiable elements of human-centric equity and fairness are delivered and explained to affected constituents.
