Hey there folks! I'm a Curriculum Architect and Developer doing all sorts of exciting things with AI. Some of you may be familiar with CognitiveClass.ai,  where I worked with a great team to push out a lot of courses on various Open Source technologies. Some of those technologies are a great building block into what you can do to "Infuse" AI into your applications. I'm looking forward to sharing knowledge with the Community but also hoping to learn a lot more about what you all have done with AI and your experiences.

Greetings to all. This community is a great opportunity to come together given the endless disparate links and groups that we have, all trying to create cohesiveness. I work with universities, faculty and students with the goal of diminishing the skills gap between what educators offer and industry requires. My specific responsibilities include content development and lab development with a keen eye on the latest updates to our AI services on IBM Cloud plus in-class instructor for the data science and the AI tracks (two of 8 offerings that we have in the Global University Program). This publication with the University of Louisville, highlights a success story that we would like to emulate with as many universities as we come across.

    Hello Christina,

Thanks for your message. I would love to be an IBM blogger so letting you know fyi.

I've been developing web technologies since 2001 including social networking platforms starting in 2007. I'm new to AI but reading a lot and learning very fast. I've also got a site up for my first AI project on Unified Field Theory (UFT) & Artificial Intelligence at https://uft.ai/

I've got a disruptive financial AI model already worked out that I would like to construct with the help/use of IBM products/services. This idea involves financial markets.

I recently signed up to the IBM sponsor program and hope to work on my models while testing out new product features and providing IBM user feedback. Although I cam be of much more value to IBM than simply providing user feedback given my experience with internet and social technology, innovative ideas and valuable IP. I say this to open the door to possibly working together on my projects some day.

Thanks again for sharing. I'm excited to learn more and participate in this AI learning community.

    Thanks Christina,

Is there an easy way to reply to all of the people you listed there?

UFT.ai is just the ultimate dream project (on the side). With that being said, I have a well developed AI financial model that I would like to test run and see if I can get it working. It involves trading securities in the financial markets. Can I please have a few moments to speak with some of you on the phone to discuss my financial model / theory which I must prove. Proving this can be accomplished by using Machine Learning, Self Learning AI and neural networks. I'm here to begin my journey into AI and humbly seek your help and guidance.

Thank you all very much for your time and help!

    Hi all,

my home is hardware-related software. I am working as an embedded software engineer, pushing single bits and bytes over the bus. Im always seeking for new challenges and opportunities in the world of IT, trying to grasp the big picture. Just took part in the Master the Mainframe contest and decided to build a bridge from the classical fields of computer sciences to the "new world". Therefore enrolled in the IBM AI Engineering Professional Certificate on Coursera.
Great fun to learn about all the technologies. And thanks a lot to IBM for their contribution to lifelong learning!

    Hello everybody:

I'm Eng. Marcelo Ripoll - L3 Certified IT Specialist, Member of Technical Council Argentina.
I'm the Global Database Chief Engineer & Cognitive Analytics Leader from Application Hosting Services Engineering, GTS - WW Infrastructure Services Delivery.
I started the journey to data science on 2014 when starting to study and use Watson Analytics to solve a big data management problem and the creation of executive reports (dashboards) for 80 users around the globe every month with multiple selection criteria.

We started with a very simple dashboard about technical teams' workload for around 900 accounts and some months later, we had built about 47 dashboards with more than 218 graphics, 21 tables, 248 filters and 290 counters for some other reports such as: productivity or human resources analysis. My team won an OTAA award on 2018 for this project.
    (https://w3-connections.ibm.com/blogs/a896ea11-265e-4561-b376-a8f3774ac30c/entry/Congratulations_to_GTS_Outstanding_Technical_Achievement_Award_Winners?lang=en)

Then, as Watson Analytics was to be shutdown on July 2019, we were pushed to recreate all dashboards into Cognos Analytics performing a very deep re-engineering definition.
Today we are working to improve and created more Cognos Analytics Dashboard and reports automating current manual tasks at different reports.

I'm joining this group to exchange experiences, problems and solutions to improve the quality services for our customers.

    Hi.
My name is Sara Wedeman. I started my professional life as a psychologist - initially doing therapy, then conducting research (primary, secondary, qualitative and quantitative). When I finished grad school, I moved into banking, doing consumer behavior research - especially on attitudes toward money/finance, and their relationships to behavior. Even back before "big data," my colleagues and I routinely performed sophisticated analyses on large data sets, borrowing local universities' mainframes to run our programs. This led to my next big career segué, into computing, data science, machine learning, and etc. I am especially keen to explore the connections (and disconnects) between human cognition and AI, as well as to work on establishing ethical guidelines for AI. I am very glad to be here!

I came across an IBM Australia Research Paper on the recent work on PubLayNet https://arxiv.org/abs/1908.07836 and am implementing but my results arent as great as the pretrained models. As the paper mentions fine tuning to create huge differences in results, am looking to correctly understand the backbone of the model to understand how to best train/fine tune for my documents, or documents in general. If Anyone else is inetersted in Document Layout Analysis or Tabular Data Extraction, drop me a message!

Good day I'm Daniel Campbell from the Caribbean multi-island state of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. I'm a Civil Engineer and Certified Sustainability Professional who specialises in designing and managing resilient and sustainable civil infrastructure projects as well as implementing large scale ICT infrastructure projects.

From 2018-2019 I was Project Engineer for Digicel SVG on the Caribbean Regional Communications Infrastructure Program (CARCIP) and led a team conducting site readiness and site design surveys of all 200+ government buildings to recommend necessary rehabilitation works and optimal layout of ICT infrastructure. I also coordinated and participated in the configuration and installation of all GWAN (Government Wide Area Network) core nodes and networking devices. CARCIP is a World Bank-financed Public-Private Partnership between Digicel Group and the governments of Saint Lucia, SVG and Grenada to develop a world-class future-proofed fibre optic network infrastructure. Every Government building will benefit from high-speed fibre connections to facilitate modern innovations like e-government, Smart Cities, Safe Cities, Connected Health and Advanced Learning. Resilient subsea cables now will link all three island states to provide full redundancy.

I hope to develop skills in Data Science, Machine Learning and AI to better harness the possibilities created by this new infrastructure for the social and economic development of the Caribbean States.

Currently, I am contracted in one of the largest housing recovery projects in the history of the English-speaking Caribbean. The Dominica Housing Recovery Project (July 01, 2019-Present). I lead a team of 10 civil engineers and architects who conduct site assessments to aid in the resilient reconstruction of 1,000 homes for vulnerable persons who had their homes destroyed in the Category 5 Hurricane Maria in 2017. The entire operation is centred around a central Management Information System that was developed by consultants to the project.

Hello all, my name is Marco Sánchez Sorondo. I'm a computer science student at the University of Buenos Aires and a Data Science/AI enthusiast. I am currently studying data science with books such as 'Python for Data Analysis' from Wes McKinney and 'Python Data Science Handbook' from Jake VanderPlas. Given that books are a bit too theoretical, I decided to join the community in order to interact with people, gain some experience and hopefully one day become an active and reliable contributor to it.
I have completed my basic science courses from college and am currently entering to the more computer science-focused phase, so I'd like some advise regarding to IBM's courses at Coursera... Is it okay for me to take them or is it still early? Which one? This semester I'm doing my first courses on Algorithms, Data Structures, Probability and Statistics. My knowledge about Data Science goes no further that basic plain Python, numPy, some pandas and conceptual (by this I mean 'non-technical') knowledge about neural networks and deep learning (learnt from Lex Fridman's podcasts and lectures on AI). I am VERY eager to start digging into this topics and gaining more practical experience.

    Thanks everyone and regards,
    Marco Sánchez Sorondo

Hedges are linguistic devices used to obscure the factuality of information. I am experimenting with all sorts of classifiers and optimizing the features in a way to make the application domain-independent. As I am always curious to learn more about Data Science and NLP, I'm excited to get access to IBM's courses and hear about career opportunities as well as tips to building a career.

    Hey everyone,

I am currently in my final year of engineering in the field of mechatronics and reside in Mumbai, India. I have always been intrigued by Artificial Intelligence and Data Science is something that boomed in the last few years. If someone asked me about my dream keeping aside the feasibility, I would say that I want to make an Iron Man suit (that's just cool). It is naive and nowhere close to reality now but at least I know for a fact that this kind of intelligence can help people with their lives if used in the right way. I have pursued various IBM specializations on Coursera and other resources to help enhance my skillset regarding ML/DL.

Maybe getting certifications is a big deal for a student like me but I want to dig as much as possible since I am genuinely passionate about this field. I want to 'nearly' fulfill my dream and work for the field that I love rather than settling for some desk job. That will only take place when we indulge ourselves in the right company. I hope this forum would help me achieve that.

Greetings!  I'm a Client Technical Specialist and Data Scientist at IBM.  At this time, I am focused on building my competency around the Watson Knowledge Catalog offering in Cloud Pak for Data.  I expect to expand into Data Virtualization in the near future.  I have worked in restaurant, manufacturing, maintenance, logistics, research, aviation, and automotive industries.  I have degrees in Bioinformatics, Management Information Systems, Operations Management, and Finance (and a minor in Chemistry and basically a bio undergrad, minus some lab hours and immunology and comparative vertebrate anatomy courses).

I look forward to seeing the conversations that develop here, but notice participation appears to be low.  Perhaps we should reflect on how we can improve participation.

    Hi all,

I'm Robert Kende, Advisory IT Architect and working for InfoSphere Services. I'm bringing experience in different on-premise products of the InfoSphere brand (MDM, Information Server, Data Replication) and I'm now studying for the CP4D Architect certification. It's really amazing to see how so much functionality that in the past was spread out over many components and had to be integrated is now coming in CP4D already fully integrated, and with so many new and exciting features that tremendously speed up the typical use cases.
Looking forward to learning a lot in the coming months!

    Cheers.

A couple of years ago when I got laid off (company was sold at a discount), I started to learn everything Linux, Machine Learning, AI, Computer Vision, and Blockchain. I know a lot but it is always nice to know more. Maybe I will be able to use this new knowledge to continue to solve problems. If nothing else it will keep me off the streets and busy. I am now revisiting all my previous study materials and adding new ones (Coursera and IBM). Thank you for making the IBM materials available.

    Hello , Lori,

My name is Tamrat  a resident in DC Metro area. I am a grad student in Data Science and passionate to engage in AI , ML ..... With reference to your question on AI in Business document management, I will be happy to involve if this is your desired project .    I agree  that  several  employees  in various organization  waste  their  precious time on  inefficient, paper-related workflows. Smart document management systems is ideal to improve these processes.  To this end  , you can use either AI or ML.
first you need to find out : types  of documents you have,  cloud or  on premise document ,  folder  based  or folder-less ....  Then , based on the document types , you need to sort out features such as  metadata, search, integration, stability , usability ....there are different models to apply .

You can build a system to :
    • Design your document workflows
    • Fill data automatically to your document forms
    • Create unlimited number of document forms and related document workflows
    • Create, Edit, Approve, Sign off documents online, delegate your authorities when required, set deadlines with further follow-up / e-mail notifications
    • Leverage Analytics & Reporting capabilities to gain greater insights over staff performance, identify faster bottlenecks in document workflow related processes.
    Hope to hearing from you,
    Best,
    Tamrat

Hello everyone! I found Watson in grad school (pre-COVID 2018-19) and had always been looking for an opportunity to implement it to solve the problems of public and non-profit communication professionals.

As soon as I found some Python code to help me build a demo of my project, I learned that it was built using Personality Insights; which is on the block for deprecation. One step forward, two steps back.

I'm trying to rework it to use Watson NLU, but am getting frustrated with my coding skills.

I've started a social welfare organization with a goal of trying to fix the way Americans talk to each other.  The plan is to use NLU to analyze answers to open-ended questions about how people would solve the range of problems facing America. I'd take that output to help government and non-profits craft better messaging to pass laws, ballot measures, understand the needs of a service area, etc.

I know NLU can provide value, just need to get past this coding problem. Is this the right group?

You can try looking at this IBM Coursera course:

"Building AI Powered Chatbots Without Programming"

It is a good introduction to building a Chatbot, which sounds like what you want to do. There is no real programming involved. You have to include Logic for the Dialog portion which ties everything together. NLU is really a rapidly evolving topic of AI. The latest research I have seen is on Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3 (GPT-3by OpenAI, which tries to generate text based on what has been entered. A good source of material besides IBM is MachineLearningMastery.com, which provides very good explanations of Machine Learning and various AI topics including NLP. The books cost money, but they are worth it. Also, the website has a Blog. Hope this helps.

I am not sure if this is on Topic, but I am taking the Coursera "Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI)", which should be fairly easy. The problem I have having is after a create a new Watson Studio service and try to CREATE a new project, nothing happens. No error messages. I was wondering where the Logs are for errors. Also, if you can give me a clue what I am doing wrong, that would be nice. I am running under Dallas Lite. I have been taking a couple of courses so I have a couple of projects listed under my Watson Studio. My guess is I ran out of resources, but the system does not tell me anything. The Labs on these courses are not reflecting well on IBM. Labs should work without any problems. I deleted the instances of Machine Learning and Watson Studio. Other non-IBM courses do not make it this hard to actually do what is essentially a demo. I noticed that some of the IBM courses do not reflect the changes in the individual products. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hi Patrick. I can only think of two reasons for the source of error, from my own experience:
    1. The internet connection drops - this happens more than people think, as most internet providers are making updates to their infrastructure
    2. You may have used the allotted resources for the lite (free) plan.

Here is what I get when I log into the IBM's cloud services and I navigate to Watson Studio:
Watson Studio homepageOnce there, make sure you can tick the checkbox for the Lite plan, then click the blue Create button on the right.

Once that button is clicked, I get to the Watson Studio instance:

    Watson Studio instance
That should be it. As for the differences in the way the IBM platform looks in detail and the courses on Coursera, you have to remember the AI world evolves extremely fast, it is a cut-throat competition between IBM, Google, Amazon, etc so new features are added much faster that the courses can be updated. But that shouldn't be a major issue for someone determined to learn and keep up with the changes.
    Good luck in your endeavor!

    Hello,
Rob here.  In a previous life I was in a DB2 z/OS system programmer and DBA.

I am now working with Microsoft Azure as a DBA/data engineer, but really miss working with IBM.  If you don't mind, I'd like to hang out here and learn about the latest with IBM AI, data science, etc.

I'd also like to stay abreast of IBM cloud, since I am immersed in the Microsoft world, just to reminisce and possibly apply techniques to my current role.

I'm seriously considering changing my focus to Data Science.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum. Working with technology since 2002.
I am a Ph.D. student in web science, and my thesis is on the recognition of educational emotions.
My current project is a serious game, which recognizes students' emotions and, depending on the result, makes the game easier or more difficult.
I would like to know if anyone on the forum has worked with recognition of educational emotions.
    Thank you very much.

Hello Marcelo! Thank you very much!

Yes, it is possible to check if the person is happy or sad. Already sick, I've never seen studies that can buy this.

My focus is educational emotions, but before that, I have to check basic emotions.

    Hello Pedro!

is it 100% of accuracy? Is it cause prejudice as the analyst can I say I am 100% sure that he is this or that, but actually it can be wrong .

I was told it could predict illness by an expert.

We also have to be aware of the bias while performing it. There is a lot of code of ethics evolving here.

    thank you,
    Pedro

    Hi Marcelo!
100% will never be because it is a scientific method.

Regarding image recognition in medicine, it is possible, for example, to identify possible skin cancers. But this should not replace a doctor.

Already in emotion recognition, if used in medicine, for example, we can recognize the emotions of people hospitalized in ICU, trying to identify if the patient is in some kind of urgency or pain.

But these emotions can be simulated, for example, if we put emotion recognition in a football game, we will identify that some players are in pain 90 minutes into the match :)

    Hi Pedro,

But don't you think that it can be predicted by the posts and tweets on social media if users have depression? Only by their tweets.

    Kindly,
    marcelo

    Hello Marcelo,

What I study are facial and motor expressions (using the mouse).

About depression per post, I find it very difficult, but that's my personal opinion I've never seen any article on the subject. I believe that many people with depression would not use social media.

But that might be a good area to work in, isn't that interested?

    Hi Pedro,

You said: 'About depression per post, I find it very difficult, but that's my personal opinion I've never seen any article on the subject. I believe that many people with depression would not use social media.'

On the contrary, these people  use social media and only post pics and videos happy, celebrating and so on and so forth, so that the viewers see them as living a good life. Just to hide their real condition.

and researchers find that  overuse of electronics devices are decreasing the power of decision on the kids! I saw it on the media.

    Hi Marcelo,

Here are some links to scholarly articles by a few individuals who have applied AI to study depression (and other mental health issues) on social media:
    https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=Z9Pfp6UAAAAJ&hl=en
    https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=Q_rTsewAAAAJ&hl=en
    https://scholar.google.ca/citations?hl=en&user=uiJso6MAAAAJ&view_op=list_works&sortby=pubdate

I personally used AI to analyze a couple years worth of posts on the subreddit r/Depression on Reddit.com. In 2019 there were about 20K posts per month, so at least some depressed people use social media.

    Cheers,
    Keely

Hello Tim! Thank you very much!

It would be great if I could demonstrate it, my idea would be after finishing it to make it available for further studies or development.
