Below are some points which make to secure data effectively.

• Effectively establishment of Information security environment with updated policies with keen focus on control breach areas in data environment so that you can fix it in time without data loss. 
• Check the quality way of transactions of data.
• Always keep backups of your data.
• Keep update the information with backups.
• All single data is important, so instead of deleting put in different bucket if it's no longer use.
• Only authorized person should have access for sensitive data.
• You can also use ethical hackers who will prevent your data from hacking (if needed).

Hi! I think there are a few ways to think about this, in terms of protecting a clients data or our own data. For our own data I know these days a lot of social media sites track our behavior and are able to sell that information to marketers. I think if you wanted to protect your personal data more you can research how to disable personal websites you use form storing your data.
