I'm new in SPSS statistics, sorry for the primitive question. I can't figure our how to undo changes in the data/variable view window and I couldn't find any answer on the Internet!!
For example I recode a variable, run and execute, then I decide to undo the recoding.
    What am I missing here?

There is no undo for data as it would carry a lot of overhead, which would be incurred after every data command and would have some other complications.  There are two things you can do, however.
    1) If you have not saved the data, you can reopen the data file to restore it to the condition it was in when not saved.
    2) You can go to the Welcome dialog - File >Welcome Dialog.  Then, assuming that auto recovery is on (which is the default), you can restore the data and/or syntax files from a recent backup.

Hi Jon - Thanks for your reply - That's a pitty, but I'll take that in mind to do the backup.

Hi, Mina. Undo/Redo functionality is limited in the Data Editor. Certainly once you have passed the data by computing a variable and running it, undoing that will not be possible using Edit>Undo. If you have a copy of the data on disk, you can "revert" to the latest saved copy by selecting File>Open>Data and re-opening it.

In v27 and later, you can also have the ability to save "restore points."

Thank you Rick. I will read more about the restore points option.

in general, you would be better off using "recode... into" instead of simply "recode".
if you need to keep the original variable name(s), you could then save the file with the recoded variable(s) under a new name, or you could rename the original variables before doing the recode. but in general, it is a safer practice to use "recode.. into".
