  • 1.  Conversational 3D Avatar with Unity SDK

    Greetings All,

    If I'm in the wrong place, please re-direct me.  I'm an aspiring, Indie Unity developer.  My quest is to develop a mobile digital assistant application/Chatbot.  The digital assistant is not only driven by Watson's Speech to Text/Text to Speech services, but also interacts with RESTFUL API's. Maybe I'm the only one interested in doing something like this as I can't find any current tutorials.  I built a project with the unity-sdk-core-1.2.3 from a Scott Hwang Github repository. I understood the concept, but it didn't fully  work. That is the StT portion actually captured my voice/question and displayed it.  But the Text to Speech never connected to the Watson Services. So questions like; what are your hours, where are you located etc never replied.  The author of that tutorial never replied after i asked to see the other Watson settings or instructions on filling them in he only showed the Text to Speech setup. 

    Moving forward I found a newer Unity SDK version on the Watson site(Search) unity sdk 1.2.4.  I noticed immediately that the Watson Settings component was missing in action.  The Watson Setting component in sdk version 1.2.3 provided slots to plug in service id's and url's from Watson services.(see attachment) The newer version I only found useful StT and TtS scripts.  This is were I'm stuck. There are no notes or instructions on how to setup and use the Unity SDK.  and actually on searching for the unity sdk tonight....no resources are found. Any assistance and help would be deeply appreciated.

    Hi Dwaine Amos. I'm a Unity developer too, but I've never done anything with Watson Assistant using Unity.

    You should use the Service URL found at the IBM Cloud website on the page when you first open the specific Assistant as shown here:

    The URL found on the "Assistant settings" page under "API details" is not correct (for this Unity project) although it is labeled "Assistant URL":

    Hey! Good to meet ya!  How is your Avatar bot coming along?  I scrapped my project and will start from zero!  My TTS and StT went inactive and was probably the reason stuff wasn't working.

    My project is not really an Avatar bot. I'm developing a game that checks the player's emotions and thus makes the game harder or easier. But it's going well.

    If you have any doubts about the configuration, just let me know.
