  • 1.  Major issue with "Split file"

    Hi all.

I am having a majorly crippling issue with SPSS right now.

My dataset is in Excel file format, which I can import with no issues into SPSS. The dataset is composed by about 50ish columns. Now, when I try to split my file ("Compare Groups") to look at the interactions between the independent variables, something very weird happens. The split file operation is carried out with no issues, as far as the Output file shows, but half of the data in my columns disappears. To be clear, it's not the columns that disappear, but the data within the columns.

Has anybody else had this issue? What could it be causing it? I'm at a complete loss and don't know how to proceed.

I have never seen that behavior - what version of Statistics and platform are you on - but I suspect that while the DE doesn't show all the data, that it is still present and would be used if a procedure is run.  Check that out.

Also, if you turn splits off, do you see all the data again?

    Is this on a Mac?

I think it's Mac version 28 that, for me, when I select cases they are correctly selected but those hash lines on left of data editor do not appear for what is selected out. It's unnerving but the selection does seem to occur. This sounds a little similar.

There is a new feature in 28 that allows a choice between showing all cases with slashes as before or showing only the selected cases.  Right clicking in the blank above the case numbers allows you to switch this, at least on Windows.

However, I don't think that affect split files.  It should still display all the cases.

That's terrific to know. Thank you.

I am having the same issue with the Split File function.  I can split the files and run the procedures I need, but then my data disappears from the Data View.  I'm confident that it is still there because I can run additional procedures, but I cannot see it. The data does not return to view when I reset the Split File option either.  I'm running version 27 on Windows.

This is very frustrating.  Any suggestions?  Thank you.

    Hey,

I am having the same issue. Did you resolve the problem or find another solution?

    Thank you in advance!  :)
