  • 1.  Threeway interaction with categorial iv

    Hello everybody,

there are many tutorials out there, but unfortunately I can not find one for this specific case:

I'm trying to run an ANOVA with these factors:
    - IV 1: Categorial; three factor levels
    - IV 2: Categorial; three factor levels
    - IV 3: Categorial; two factor levels
    - DV: Continuous
Meaning that the combination of IV1 and IV2 should lead to a certain processing style of IV3,
which should show in the DV.

So do I have to create dummy variables for each IV? Also for IV3 that has only two factor levels?
And just define them as "fixed factors" (except for the reference category ofc)? Or are IV1 and IV2 Covariates?
I know these questions rather relate to a regression analysis, but the results should be the same, right?

Thank you very much in advance! :)

Hi. Sounds to me like you should define them as factors.

I wonder whether the use is looking at the REGRESSION procedure, where the dummy variables would have to be constructed (or use the SPSSINC CREATE DUMMIES extension command) rather than GLM (Analyze > General Linwar Model > Univariate), where the factors could be defined explicitly.
