SPSS 28 - running syntax/where is my output window?

  • 1.  SPSS 28 - running syntax/where is my output window?

    Hi everyone,

Brand new to this forum and SPSS 28! I got pretty comfortable using SPSS 23. I have noticed a few funky things, and they are probably super simple settings I need to change, or updates that I have to get used to.

My lab has compiled the syntax we use to score questionnaires, and in trying to just highlight this and run it, nothing happens. If I go through and manually do it through Compute Variable, it works, but there's no trace of it actually happening (i.e., in an output window) like there used to be. So if I wanted to update our syntax file, for example, I cannot see the actual command that worked.

I ran descriptives and that came up in an output window, but I'm not seeing the typical play by play of whatever you run. Is this just not a thing in 28 or is there a way to open a window that does this?

Has there been some update to the way syntax commands need to be written?

Thanks so much in advance for your assistance!

    Hi.

In a syntax window, run this:

    SET PRINTBACK=LISTING.

then re-do your analysis and see if that is what you're looking for.

If you prefer using the menus, go to Edit > Options, then select the Viewer tab:

Check that box, and that will do the same SET PRINTBACK LISTING command for you.
