SPSS not functioning on MacOS

  • 1.  SPSS not functioning on MacOS

    Hallo Support@community,
I'm a student at Hamburg University of Technology Germany. I just received a link from my school to download SPSS on my system (MacOS). After downloading and installation, I still can't use the SPSS software. I get a message that the software has expired or asking for a product key.
    Pls see screenshots for details.
What could be wrong with the Software packet that I received from my University?
    Best regards,
    Tobe

I had lots major problems with SPSS 27 on my 2020 MacBook. The interim fixes fixed most of it. I still can't use syntax to save output files, but the crosstabs and labels not work.

Hi, Bonnie. Could you please post the syntax that is causing you trouble? And if possible would you also post the error message that the program is returning to you? I'm not aware of this problem you are experiencing and we would like to get it fixed right away. Thanks.

I meant to say that with the temporary patches (see second attachment) crosstabs and value labels are now working. When crosstabs and value labels were erroring, they didn't give me error messages, they just hung forever when those lines of the script were run. I would then have to force quit.

The problem I see now is that saving log files does not work. It seems as though it works -- no error message when syntax is run and a file appears saved to my drive in the path and filename I designate, but when I try to open it new .spv file the error message is "The file is not a Viewer document." Other people haven't been able to open these either.
My workaround is when I am ready to save my log file I use menu options for saving rather than scripted syntax. I much prefer scripts.

    Here is the syntax:
    save outfile '/Users/bonniealbright/Documents/HRS Data/Tracker FIles/trk2018_3/trk2018tr_r.spv'.

File is saved and appears in drive.

When I try to open it or email it to someone to open I get the error message above.

That's a misunderstanding.  The SAVE command saves data, not output, regardless of what extension you attach.  You can save the output from the Viewer File menu or in syntax use the OUTPUT SAVE command.

    Oh happy day! Thanks!

Are there known errors with the new Mac OS Big Sur (11.0.1) and SPSS 27 (27.0.0.0)?
I'm hesitant to install the newest OS until my current project is complete.

I think 27.0.1 is required for Big Sur
