What is the role of Data Scientists in IBM?

For the past few decades, IBM has been a Service oriented company, offering software solutions and services to different clients. While we are transforming to a Cognitive organization, I believe the basic business model of offering solutions and services will remain, but more of using Cognitive solutions.

In this context, I'd like to ask, what do Data Scientists in IBM do? Will they work with different clients (accounts) as Consultants and figure out how their business can be done better? Or is IBM's focus mainly on offering solutions (like Watson Studio) to Data Scientists of other companies?

I am unable to connect the dots. If you are a Data Scientist or know one, please share your insights. Thanks.

Hello, what I'am going to say may sound trivial, but as a scientist, I think first we must agree in a 'definition for cognitive'. If not may be will talk about different things. I like to use Cognitive Science (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy)

Cognitive Science (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy)
Traditionally, philosophers do not perform systematic empirical observations or construct computational models, although there has been a recent rise in work in experimental philosophy. But philosophy remains important to cognitive science because it deals with fundamental issues that underlie the experimental and computational approach to mind.
