Hello Stephanie,
For years I have meetings with development team. I have also meeting with Scott about Transformer and Hierarchical Data stages in cloud version. Currently I couldn't check second one (it is still not available in GA) but Transformer is much less useful than in the old desginer.
At least:
- there is no single view for the constraints - each of them belongs to output link view - it makes impossible to make quick derivation copy or check that otherwise link is in correct position (cause otherwise option is connected with links above the Otherwise link)
- there is no single view for outputs - we often copy part of derivation between outputs - it is mainly used for some pivots which are not efficient in Pivot or Hierarchical Data Stage
It makes development much slower than in Designer.
Even if CP4D will be better solution, currently we have IS on premise. CP4D is under development and currently
- has no sequence equivalent (will have Watson pipelines)
- will not have server engine - some part of functionalities were never be available in Parallel jobs like hash files, universe stage, possibility to have input and output link in one db stage (parallel has reject link instead), transform functions, iconv/oconv full support (conversion function is only subset of them)
- strong architecture change (from monolith or module application into micro-services on OpenShift) that requires much more resources (currently IS 11.7 requires 8 cpu core only for IGC microservices - much more than full stack without them); that architecture makes also troubleshooting and upgrading much more complex (sorry but your scripts even not checked that non-root installation will failed during patching cause user is not beloning to docker group)
If wee look from that perspective - migration from IS to CP4D will be long term process. It will takes months (even if some tool will be provided), cause some rework we have to do manually (in web tool cause DSX is also not supported and we couldn't change part of jobs just by simple text edit like currently we do). That is why, we need HD support in IS not only in CP4D.
You have at least 2 years to make DFD usable and you know that HD will be problematic cause Adobe in 2019 told all companies that they will disable that technology. And you expect that customer will pay 1k USD for each Flash seat license, cause you not provide solution. Where is IBM value that you always talk about?

Hello there Marcin, all,
The Hierarchical Stage on Next-Gen DataStage will provide our customers with comprehensive functionality they are used to in the Thick Client. Our team has extensively reviewed how our customers use the rich features, performed developer interviews to address current use cases, and made design improvements (so the stage is simpler to use). Unfortunately, the DFD did not provide nearly as much functionality as we are building into Next-Gen DataStage. We would love to show the new stage to you and any others interested!
In addition, CP4D will support sequence Jobs, including the activities our customers use today. Our team is working very hard on the built-in Migration service to make sure it covers the extensive use of Sequencer capabilities that will need to migrate to CP4D.
As to Server jobs, we have a Conversion utility coming out soon that can help to map Server jobs to Parallel jobs. There are plenty of nuances to Server jobs that we are building into the conversion utility, and if you have any use cases that are top of mind, we would love to discuss more with you!

Currently IBM Support has no more HARMAN licenses. What is more plugin licenses were limited to end of 2021.
It is a huge problem cause DFD desginer is not only problematic (sometimes even fields dissapered on canvas) but also has limited functionality (lack of full support for job parameters - you can provide them manually but for passwords that workaround doesn't work).
It is great that CP4D will provide new one but Server jobs and sequences will not be supported. That will cause migration process which is long term. In both cases (DFD and CP4D) we just loosing some functionality.
Regards,
Marcin

Any specific link or number of web site for contacting Harman for getting this plugin? We have been sending queries from their contact page; No one is contacting us. Please share information ASAP. Thanks.

Follow-up on this with a few months of experience under my belt.
We finally had to give up completely on Flow Designer. While there were workarounds for some of the issues (unable to scroll down beyond the first page = scroll to the last line, highlight it, hit DOWN-ARROW) there were others that were just untenable. The slightest change to the XSD meant re-mapping everything, for example.
IBM has given us a license for the Harman plugin and that is working just fine with (classic) Designer for the time being. Our security group has left the Flash Remover tool active, so about every month we simply reinstall Harman, which is a 5-minute process.

Should work just fine for new installs. The installer doesn't use Flash at all. But your PC will have to have Flash installed as the Infosphere installer (as far as I know) does not provide it. You will also need Internet Explorer (not Edge) installed so Designer has a browser it can invoke the Flash plugin call.
If you don't already have Flash installed on the machine, then you will have to look into a source for the Flash plugin. Downloading one over the internet right now would be sketchy, of course, but you might look into the third party provider Harman -- Adobe (harman.com). They are providing a supported installer for Flash and have committed to security patches. But it's not free.
You might see if IBM is willing to pay for it. We just decided to pursue an upgrade from 11.7.1.0 to 11.7.1.1 so we get support for the Hierarchical Stage in Flow Designer. Re-enabling Flash bought us a few months until Microsoft (and our internal security team at my company) start pushing to remove Flash forcibly.

We use this tip: https://blogs.sap.com/2020/12/10/how-to-keep-enterprise-flash-applications-accessible-in-2021/
In C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\mms.cfg file we add that lines:
EOLUninstallDisable=1
SilentAutoUpdateEnable=0
EnableAllowList=1
AutoUpdateDisable=1
ErrorReportingEnable=1
AllowListUrlPattern=https://host:port

I opened a PMR and received advice to add the following to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\mms.cfg (create the file if it does not exist):
AllowListRootMovieOnly=1
AllowListUrlPattern=https://services_tier_host:services_tier_port/ibm/iis/ds/xmlpack3/XMLPackController.swf
EnableInsecureActiveXNavigateToURL=1
Obviously replace the services tier host and port with yours.
We appear to be running Pepper Flash, and that is not working, so I am continuing to work with IBM to try other things for that.
My independent research has uncovered two other parameters you might try, though they did not work for me, either:
EOLUninstallDisable=1
EnableAllowList=1

Hello,
Some DS transformations using Adobe Flash Player. Adobe Flashe is out of support & is desactivated in Windows.
I'm using Herarchical Data Stage, & others components of DS using Flash.
What is going on with the flash stop ?
