Multiple Access Console to a single source datastore

  • 1.  Multiple Access Console to a single source datastore

We already have a CDC setup to/from DB2 z/OS  and Oracle.
We have a proof-of-concept where we would replicate from the same DB2 z/OS to a Kafka target.

However to use that Kafka target we would need to upgrade our Access Server and Management Console.

Instead of upgrading our existing Access Server and Console and to avoid the backward compatibility testing (especially for only a proof-of-concept),  could we install another instance  that would live side-by-side our current one ?

Or in short can two different Access Server co-exist on the same DB2 z/OS source datastore ?

    Thanks

    Hello

Yes you can install multiple versions of Access Server. You would also need to install the same version of Management Console as the Access Server. This means that you would need to install a second instance of Management Console for any use participating in the PoC.

You may need to change the dmclient.init file in the install path of the new Management Console instance to use a different workspace and configuration location from the existing instance (last two lines), and you will need to specify a different port for the new Access Server instance (10101).

Alternatively you could install the Management Client on some separate server and the users connect to that separate server for the PoC, or install Management Console and Access Server on the separate separate server, or simply install Access Server and use chcclp scripting to configure and manage replication, avoiding Management Console altogether. I am not sure

But if your Access Server and Management Console are down-level, why not simply upgrade the  existing instances. They will work fine with your existing agents. The replication will not be affected anyway, as the data flows direct from source to target.

    Thanks Robert.

Agree we will have to upgrade them but we do deploy the management console thru 3 different Citrix Windows Environment (the lead time to get this done is greater than what the PoC project can aford)  and the AS runs on Linux. It is much simplier to deploy a new AS and use a local console for the PoC wihtout have to worry about breaking the existing setup. This way I can have both tracks running at the same time at different pace.
