    Hi All,

Does anyone know if there are any plans to containerize Optim?

    Thanks in advance,
    Barbara

Bump. I have the same question. I have been asked to prepare to move our infrastructure to cloud in the next 2 years. We've selected AWS as our vendor. @Peter Costigan Is this in the roadmap?

    Thanks,
    Danny

    Hi Barbara and Danny,

First, it's always worth restating the value proposition for containerization.  I think the top points of value are  an increase in agility and flexibility, and ease of installation and deployment.

On to an answer.  However, there are a number of Optim Test Data Management (TDM) family products now, plus Archiving/App Retirement/Data Growth.

To go down the list from most recent:

    1.  Optim Data Privacy for Unstructured: we're starting planning for making this product available on Cloud Pak for Data.  It would of course be containerized.  There is no delivery date, but as a wild guess I'd look for it in the later part of this year or first half of next.
    2.  Virtual Data Pipeline: does not run containerized today.  Plans for VDP to run in a container are being evaluated regularly, but so far it seems better for this engine that manages lean, near-instant provisioning of data copies to run natively, not in a container.
    3.  Optim Test Data Orchestrator: already has been run in Docker containers.  Similar answer to #1.
    4.  Optim Test Data Fabrication: already runs in Docker containers, not exactly out of the box, but almost out of the box.  Similar answer to # 1.
    5.  Optim TDM, DP, Archive solutions: already have been run in containers.  There are no official product plans today to containerize these Optim components.  The roadmap is focused primarily on Optim modernization and on data source support.  We should also note that the strategic platform for IBM Data and AI, IBM Cloud Pak for Data, needs Data Privacy capabilities and already provides certain non-Optim DP capabilities.  Optim Offering Management is evaluating solution requirements that would be valuable on Cloud Pak for Data.  We expect some related plans to be available in Q2 2020.

    Thanks Peter,

Can you tell me if there's any way to run the Config Tool input to set up the 1st workstation via command line or under the covers directly into the directory database? I've done a console install for the runtime services but it kicks me into the config UI at the appropriate point. I'm considering doing a base install with a local DB2 and exporting the registry for the Optim Directory but it would be good to be able to automate as much config work as possible.

    Many thanks,
    Barbara
