Database Administration Enhancements of Db2 13 for z/OS

This session will focus on the Db2 13 enhancements that pertain to database administration: online conversion of PBG table spaces to PBR, online removal of active log data sets, profile table support for local-to-Db2 applications, instrumentation improvements, and more.

Speaker Bio: Robert Catterall – IBM

Robert Catterall is a Principal Db2 for z/OS Technical Specialist with IBM. He started his IT career with IBM in 1982, and worked throughout the 1990s as a member of the Company's Db2 for z/OS National Technical Support team. From 2000 to 2007, Robert worked as a database technology strategist for CheckFree (now part of Fiserv). After working for three years as an independent Db2 consultant, he rejoined IBM in 2010. Robert is a past President of the International Db2 Users Group (IDUG), and a member of IDUG's Speakers Hall of Fame. He presents frequently at conferences and user group meetings, and blogs about Db2 for z/OS

Things About Db2 z/OS I wish I’d remember when…

This presentation will cover some of the more overlooked or forgotten options; commands; syntax that could prove to be invaluable in managing your Db2 environment. Intended target audience is for people new to Db2 for z/OS; application developers who may benefit from knowing more about the internals of Db2; or people like myself who just can't remember a command; syntax or option and need a refresher.

Speaker Bio: Michael Cotignola - BMC

Michael Cotignola is a Principal Software Consultant supporting BMC's DB2 Mainframe Solutions. In this role, he helps his clients maximize the value they receive from BMC's DB2 products. Michael has worked in IT since 1975 in numerous IT disciplines, including operations, application development, and database administration. He has been working with DB2 since version 1.1. Prior to joining BMC Software in 1996, Michael was a Managing Consultant for a large telecommunications and technology firm in Canada. Michael was president of IDUG and continues to be involved with IDUG in several capacities.

Are you new to Db2 for z/OS? Or new to Db2 for z/OS data sharing? Want a refresher on buffer pools? Buffer pools, and group buffer pools for data sharing, are key to supporting Db2 workloads. Come learn the basics for these important resources.

Speaker Bio: Keziah Knopp - IBM

Keziah Knopp is a Db2 for z/OS Specialist at the IBM Z Washington Systems Center (WSC). Prior to joining the WSC Keziah focused on z/OS Communications Server, writing papers and delivering presentations on IPv6 and IBM z Encryption Readiness Technology (zERT). She has presented at SHARE conferences on communications and Db2 REST topics and is an author of the "Db2 13 for z/OS and More" Redbook. Most recently, she worked on a special project for Db2 subsystem automation, collaborating with developers and writing Python scripts.

Speaker Bio: Tori Felt - IBM

Tori Felt is a Db2 for z/OS Specialist in the IBM Z Washington Systems Center. As part of the Db2 for z/OS team, Tori analyzes client data, makes technical recommendations, delivers the Db2 REST and Hybrid Cloud workshop, develops new workshop offerings and has presented at User Group meetings and Db2 conferences. 

Speaker Bio: Anna McKee – IBM

Anna McKee is a Technical Enablement Specialist in the IBM zSystems ISV Center. Her primary focus is managing and supporting all Db2 for z/OS subsystems. Anna works with hundreds of independent software vendors by providing the latest levels of SMPE maintenance, installing and configuring Db2 for z/OS, setting up Db2 data sharing, and providing support and consultation.

Data Mesh is the new hot term for Data, I’m gonna talk about how to integrate mainframe data into your Data Mesh.

Speaker Bio: Greg Debo – IBM

Greg spent 34 years at State Farm focused on mainframe data, including being a DBA for IMS and Db2, Product Support for Db2, Guardium and IDAA, and part of the Mainframe Architecture Team which helped set direction for how to modernize our use of the platform.
