  • 1.  Reuse ER spaces

    Posted Thu August 01, 2024 05:24 AM

    Hi,

IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 11.70.FC5XE

We have some ER settings in onconfig as legacy.

    CDR_EVALTHREADS         1,2
    CDR_DSLOCKWAIT          15
    CDR_QUEUEMEM            4096
    CDR_NIFCOMPRESS         1
    CDR_SERIAL              0
    CDR_DBSPACE
    CDR_QHDR_DBSPACE        edr_dbs01
    CDR_QDATA_SBSPACE       edr_sbs01
    CDR_SUPPRESS_ATSRISWARN
    CDR_DELAY_PURGE_DTC     0
    CDR_LOG_LAG_ACTION      logstage+ddrblock
    CDR_LOG_STAGING_MAXSIZE 0
    CDR_MAX_DYNAMIC_LOGS    0

    edr_sbs01 has 700k pages used.

    Provided ER is not active,

    $ onstat -g cat

    IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 11.70.FC5XE -- On-Line -- Up 1 days 00:39:10 -- 344686176 Kbytes

    Enterprise Replication is not active.

is it safe to reuse space that ER spaces occupy?

    A plan is,
    1) Comment out all the settings above,
    2) Restart the IDS,
    3) Comment out the settings on RSS,
    4) Restart the RSS,
    5) Drop the spaces.

    Hi Dennis,

if ER is not in use, i.e. not defined, on this server, those spaces likely aren't either. and you might be able to drop them without restart or reconfiguration.

Those 700k in-use pages in the sbspaces might be some orphaned ER leftover in which case they would be nothing to care about.
-> you can try "oncheck -pe" or "oncheck -pS" on the sbspace to learn more about its content

If you're lucky, it's only TBLSpace TBLSpace and metadata partitions and no actual sblobs, so a simple drop would be possibly (otherwise a force drop had to be done.)

    Dennis:

Yes, it is safe to drop those dbspaces/sbspaces and reuse the storage. No problem. Your plan to disable the CDR parameters is probably unnecessary but prudent.

You do know that v11.70 has been out-of-support for many years now. You should probably upgrade to the current latest release (14.10.FC11), especially given that v15 will be released in the fall.
