Utilizing the DB2 HADR reads on standby feature in a business intelligence environment

Introduction

The objective of this article is to showcase how to approach automating HADR in business intelligence (BI) environments using IBM® DB2 10.1 for Linux®, UNIX®, and Windows®. The following three areas are addressed in this article:
  1. Using DB2 HADR automation to provide high availability to BI applications.
  2. Utilizing the new HADR reads on standby (ROS) feature first introduced in DB2 9.7 Fixpack 1.
  3. Maximizing overall performance of a BI solution by distributing the certain OLAP workloads between HADR Primary and ROS servers.
The concepts and instructions presented here are specific to only a single node or a nonpartitioned environment. It is not applicable to a DPF environment.
