  • 1.  Is End Of Support (EOS) for Maximo 7.6.1.X and Anywhere 7.6.4 known already?

    Posted Thu September 09, 2021 09:03 AM
    Hi,
    I would like to ask if End of Support dates for below products:
    - Maximo Asset Management 7.6.1.2
    - Maximo Anywhere 7.6.4
    are already known.

    I was trying to check that on IBM Software lifecycle page, but it's not provided there for Anywhere 7.6.4 and for Maximo 7.6.1.2 I only found product called IBM Maximo Asset Performance Management On-Premises, which in version 7.6.1.X and has EOS dated to 30 April 2023, but I'm not sure if it's Maximo 7.6.1.2 or some other product.

    Can you help with that?
    If EOS date is not provided to the products I'm asking about, do we know if there are any rules about EOS communication? I mean - is there any guaranteed period of time between communicating EOS and EOS deadline? If it is not communicated yet for Anywhere 7.6.4 - does it mean that our customers are safe at least for x years since communicated?

    Thanks in advance for answers.
    Regards
    Piotr Ozaist

    Maximo 7.6.2.1 --> Maximo Asset Management_7.6.x
    Maximo Anywhere 7.6.4 --> Maximo Anywhere_7.6.4

    Basically, no announcement yet and for a while yet too.

    IBM announces end of support 1 year before the actual end of support so you will have at least a year to prepare. As Craig mentioned, nothing officially announced yet for end of support of those two product versions.

    I'd recommend attending roadmap presentations from Kim Woodbury/Dave Gasdia periodically as they typically cover the tentative dates they're planning for EOS of 7.6.1.X. It's a good way to know prior to the announcement so you can prepare.

    Pretty sure it's been said that the "planned" EOL for Maximo 7.6.1 is September 2025.  That's not "official" yet (still subject to change) but I'm pretty sure I watched a webinar a couple of months ago where either Dave or Kim said that.

    (And I've been using that as my guideline for figuring out if, how, & when to move to SaaS and to MAS, so it was pretty important to me.)

    So you don't have to go and find a reference:
    From a blog post by Kim (7.6.0 End of Support date approaching - Sept 20, 2021 (ibm.com))
    "We have not yet announced the end of support dates for 7.6.1, but are targeting September 2025 as an effective date."

    The problem with me being on the west coast is that I generally end up sounding like "yeah what they said"!  hahahah.... Yet, in addition to what my good friends Craig and Steven have said, I would add this: When there is an EOM (End of Marketing Announcement) there is generally a five year timer that starts until EOS.  Generally. So if there has been no EOM announcement then you are in good shape for a few years.....  generally.  Hope this helps.

    Will there eventually be a MAM 7.6.1.3, etc.?

    Or has IBM moved on from the MAM/7.6x series...and is only releasing MAS/8x versions?

    Hi Pioti,

    It's this simple.

    On that website you mention, it states that..."Enhanced (E): minimum 5 years support with the extension of 3 years" and the GA was in 28-Feb-2020 for Maximo Anywhere 7.6.4.  It means don't worry until 2025.

    And...

    "Note: Maximo Asset Management 7.6.1.x has NOT announced an end of support and will continue to be supported. Please reference the Maximo product coexistence matrix 7.6.x link below to find add-ons and industry solutions that are compatible with Maximo Asset Management 7.6.1." for Maximo Asset Management, again the don't worry for until at least 2025.

    Please subscribe to the updates for the products following the link provided on that product EOS page.

    Regards, Craig.

    Yes there will be a 7.6.1.3. Last I heard the goal was for a 4Q 2021 release for it. For the most part, new features/functionality are not planned to be included in the 7.6.1.X releases. The focus on these releases is primarily on security and bug fixes as well as platform updates. What I mean by platform updates is they may certify Windows Server 2022 for example (or new database/application server versions).
