In preparation for our upcoming IBM Community Social Hour: Let's Create!  we would like to see how our members - users, customers, partners, and IBMers - create in your personal lives.

Do you play the trombone? Have a podcast? Build furniture?

Share a photo and description with the community here, and you may be featured during the social hour!

This video, from the incomparable @DAVID Jenness, has all the details.     (plus, it is just plain cool 😎)

    Hi @Krista Summitt,

A wonderful way to highlight the creativity of IBM community members! I lived in Southern California for a number of years and during that time I was very involved with the art and cyclist scene in Los Angeles. We had a series of events called Bike Love Art Show - and here is one of my pieces from the show. I even tried my hand at welding!!

    Hi @Krista Summitt,

Thanks for creating this thread! I can't wait to see everyone's creativity shine. Outside of work hours, I am a printmaker and I dabble in lots of mediums. Last spring I had the opportunity to paint a mural at the Blake Annex in downtown Albany, New York. The Blake Annex is a workspace (mostly for nonprofits and community leaders to have a space to organize) powered by United Way of the Greater Capital Region. United Way is an international nonprofit that fights "for the health, education and financial stability of every person in every community." My mural was reflecting their mission statement and is called Here For Each Other.

Here's one of the Creative Cameos who will join us on May 5. Raoul Niamut, is a founding partner with ECMPartners, a Netherlands-based IBM Business Partner for Business Automation. He's also a SONY Music recording artist who lays down the low end on electric bass for Bollywood soundtracks and occasionally tours in Europe with visiting Indian bands.  Check out his work on this beautiful song.

Here's another Creative Cameo who will join us May 5 during the Community Social Hour. Sydney Adams is an IBMer in Product Management for IBM Business Automation. She's also an avid food-lover and writer and she started an on-line literary food magazine called Aji. She writes it (with a delightfully wry sense of humor), takes the photographs and tests out the recipes. Click on the link to read a recent issue.

I help to run a local theatre, in Altrincham, just south of Manchester, UK. Viz: Altrincham Garrick - Drama Comedy Musicals.

We stage 12 of our own (non-professional) productions each year, as well as hosting 25-odd visiting professional productions, and we also run an Academy for 5 to 18-year olds. I also perform on-stage, if I'm successful at the auditions ....

I relish doing this partly because it's giving to the local community (ie providing entertainment), but mainly because it's such a huge difference from performing my day-time IBM work. Having said that, some of the skills gained on each side feed into the other side.

I attach some photos of recent productions that I've been able to perform in. Note: one (but only one) of the attached photos does not have me in it.

wonderful idea.. I live in Belgium and worked 32y for IBM (my only employer). Married for almost 49y.  Went on BTR (bridge to retirement) in 2006, but started as independent consultant, and still work 1 day a week.  Most of my time is given to genealogy and volunteering for the state archive creating indexes for locating documents.  I research the family of my wife and as you can see on the picture, dated in the year 1547 ..  I could find back 12 generations..  this person is the starter of almost 800 descendant  people over 450 years..  I also do some volunteering for a school where my grand-children went to..   they needed a program for managing their library, and I created an access interface to collect info about books taken by students..

I found this very rare 1966 Ducati 250 motorcycle in a very dilapidated state, abandoned behind a dealer. The bike was completely disassembled, taking me 3 years to find the required parts (sourced from around the world) and documentation like parts diagrams and factory settings . I performed all the work except for the paint job, done by a professional painter specialized in museum-quality restorations. Before and after photos.

I live in the south of Paris, France and I am not only an IBMer but also an artist. I paint mainly portraits since more than 6 years now. I do a lot of different techniques,  ink, acrylics, oil painting , watercolor or even spray paint  . Here is one of them

Recently I do share my painting in the streets of Paris with street art and collages. To see more , my instagram is etissandier_art  ..

I've always loved video games, but never made one myself. Recently I asked myself "what would my customers actually enjoy seeing on the IBM Community?" and thought... it would be cool if they could play a video game and it would make them think about a few of the diverse industry and technology standards that my product can handle for them.

So, I found an open source game platform, GDevelop, and started with an example they provide as a starting point, created my graphical assets and published it. It's retro and campy and very simple but it was fun to make and some of my developers and customers think that it's a hoot.  Even though we make mission critical enterprise software - we can still have fun!

    Hi Krista,
here is one of my DIY projects in which I create something surprisingly nice.
A good friend of ours was helping someone with his garden and he found this old garden shed.
He made a picture and sent it to me, and he called me to ask if I am interested. I said yes because I was looking for a shed which fits in its place. I didn't want to buy a new one because they were too large or too little.
I got it for free, provided that I transported the parts myself. So I picked it up the same day.

This is what I made of it. I had an idea of it in mind, and I started to sketch and measure and calculate.
I reused all materials but the footprint is smaller now. So I had to resize all wooden planks. Some parts were rotten so I cut that off.
The door was rotten below so I renewed that wooden part, and I made the door somewhat higher because I am nearly 6 feet tall.
I placed the windows vertically instead of horizontally just to fit. And it looks nicer!
The roof is transparent and lets in the daylight which makes a very nice view inside, instead of a dark box.
I didn't want to paint it in the green colors anymore "because everyone does that", so I choose for creamy white like colors, which makes it more attractive.

When our friend came to see it, his mouth fell open, he didn't recognize it anymore !!!

I also bought a used sauna for very little money, and I had to adapt it too for its new size, to fit in the room where it is now.
    "Reuse" is the keyword here.

Hi @Krista Summitt I am Nethmi Muthugala from Sri Lanka. I am an undergraduate studying Automation and Artificial intelligence and hope I would be able to join and work with IBM one day!
This creative hour is a super cool concept and I just can't wait to join on the 17th. I have got so many hobbies and out of all those creative hobbies, one thing that I would like to share with you guys is the blog that I started last year.
During my summer break, I just wnted to write a book about my life. But then i realized, wait a minute... isn't it too soon to write a book about me, who hasn't done much to the society yet. So I just started writing a blog about my weekly stories and something inspiring to my community. The name of my blog is "the days of a south asian girl" - https://substack.com/profile/42147711-nethmi-muthugala?utm_source=user-menu

This blog has literally inspired me to do or experiment something new every week and give something to my audience. Writing has improved my storytelling skills and critical thinking skills as well. Apart from that, when the readers appreciate me and thanking me for these writings, it gives me a great satisfaction.

SO if you like my weekly writings, you can subscribe to my channel for free... https://substack.com/profile/42147711-nethmi-muthugala?utm_source=user-menu

In my free time outside of work I enjoy giving back to the community specifically by working with young people.  I do a lot of community work through programs sponsored by my church but specifically I teach, mentor and also serve as a coach.  I started volunteering to work with young people many years ago when I was a college student at Virginia Tech.  At that time, I volunteered at the local community center as a basketball coach.  It was such a rewarding experience for me that after I graduated and moved to Atlanta, GA...I continued volunteering as a basketball coach and I also coached baseball.  When my wife and I joined our church, we served as youth directors and we planned several community events for the young people at our church.  We did volunteering at a local homeless shelter and we sponsored back to school supply drives and other fun events like attending pro sporting events.  We also did a SAT preparation seminar for the kids in the community to help the high school students that were planning to attend college.  We also did a one day seminar to teach students how to create websites.  Now that my children are grown, I now have more time to spend pouring into the lives of young people.  I am currently mentoring a young man who is 21 and helping him with financial planning so that he can achieve his goal of owning a house.  My wife and I are serving as "marriage counselors" for my cousin and her husband who are a young couple learning how to navigate marriage, kids and work.

Last month, I was the opening speaker at my church to kick off the Youth IT Empowerment Month.  The goal of the IT Empowerment Month was to help introduce IT careers to minority students.

I was really humbled by the response that I received from the folks that saw my speech which was streamed live on FaceBook.  I've had several people reach out to me asking me to speak with their son or daughter about IT careers.  I'm looking forward to more opportunities to share my knowledge of IT with young people.  Next, I want to do a summer technology workshop series where I hope to teach skills on linux, storage and cloud.
