How to connect ICP4D to on prem DB2 (in mainframe)

    Hi,

Can anyone help me on how can i make a connection for an on prem DB2 (private connection) in ICP4D via DB2 for z/os connector?  below is my error when connection to it directly.  i also tried the method of connecting to db2 client before connecting to the DB2 server as the db and node created on the DB2 client is pointing to the DB2 server.  but similar error occurred, with no host to route error message instead of connection timed out, is it because there is no gateway server (e.g secure gateway, but not offered in ICP4D?)?.  as per the db2 logs in mainframe, the attempt on ICP4D to connect is not reaching the DB2 server.

    error message:
Encountered error trying to test connection "name" for data source type DB2. -com.ibm.db2.jcc.am.DisconnectNonTransientConnectionException: [jcc][t4][2043][11550][4.26.14] Exception java.net.ConnectException: Error opening socket to server /xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx on port xxxx with message: Connection timed out (Connection timed out). ERRORCODE=-4499, SQLSTATE=08001

    thanks,
    Chard

    Hi Chard

Just to double check, Have you got network connectivity between CP4D and the Db2 on the mainframe?.  I asked because you mention a secure gateway that is the piece to connect for example services on IBM Cloud to on premises services.

Db2 for z/OS connector could be used such another way  to connect (if there is physical connection) if you have z/OSMF (z/OS Management Facility) or IBM Db2 DevOps Experience

    Best regards

    Hi Arancha,

Thank you for the reply.  For the network connectivity, i have secure gateway for the IBM Cognos Analytics trial version.  I was able to connect the on-prem DB2 in Cognos via connecting first to the DB2 client installed in my local machine wherein db and node were catalogue that is pointing to the DB2 server.  This method worked with the use of secure gateway.

As for the z/OSMF (z/OS Management Facility) for Db2 for z/OS connector, I checked with our sys admin and it is not up by default and it needs to be started manually.  Would you know if which plugin or function is needed for Db2 for z/OS connector?  But yeah I will check on that as well before requesting it to be up as I am not familiar with it.

    Thanks,
    Chard
