Two things are undeniable today. The first is that we are in the heart of information age. Secondly, cloud computing is a fundamental part of it.

A lot of new trends are emerging with the evolution of cloud computing. These include the growing importance of wholesale collocation.

Cloud computing began as the first enterprise service to offer business applications on a website. It later evolved into the paradigm that we all know. Cloud technology is responsible for delivering services through connectivity and large-scale Internet technology to individuals and enterprises at varying scales. The flexibility of data and information management is absolute through the cloud.

There are a number of advantages brought on by advances in cloud computing. It is a medium known for its multifunctionality when obtaining information.

Just a few years ago, the cloud was merely a simple storage tool for individuals and businesses, such as prescription sunglasses online stores. However, its evolution as a storage tool for large enterprises already shows its potential. This is something that still has to be explored further.

However, one of the biggest problems cloud providers have is guaranteeing the security of information. This is something that deters some customers from embracing it.

But this does not prevent Forrester, a market research company, from predicting that more than 50% of companies will start using cloud applications to improve the quality of their services. Also, expenses related to cloud computing will increase to an incredible amount over the next year. These figures are 4 to 5 times higher than those that were reported in 2009.

There are a number of trends that are shaping the direction of cloud computing. The five biggest trends can be summarized below.

    1. The enormous development of cloud solutions

Citing the same report from Forrester, we can identify the trend of development of services such as infrastructure, software and platform taking a big leap and investing heavily in cloud solutions. Software as a Service (SaaS) is a solution that requires a software license with subscription.

Large companies such as Google Apps and Salesforce have already started to do this on a large scale, although at the same time there are other companies that want to start offering more modest solutions. It is expected that this type of service will reach more than 18% in approximately 2 years.

Likewise, the platform as a service is a solution with which users will use a much more secure platform to store their data. All this can be administered in a simple way without the need to manage the whole structure on their own. The development of this solution is remarkable. It has already accelerated 32% in 2017 and is expected to rise another 50% in the next years.

    2. Cloud storage capacity will continue to increase

According to the figures, 370 Exabytes of data will be kept in data centers, but with the growing utilization of cloud resources, recent estimates suggest that it will reach up to 1.1 Zettabits in the coming year. This is almost a 100% increase over the last three years, according to a report from Cisco.

Sharing stored information among family and friends is becoming increasingly popular. So, it is reasonable to expect that the acceptance of services such as Google Drive and Dropbox will become even more common in everyday life within the next year.

    3. Management is increasing with less servers

Technology with fewer servers offers the advantage of configuring and maintaining application services without controlling any servers. With this, customers can link different types of cloud services in order to improve their efficiency.

This means that users do not have to waste time managing cloud services and their respective upgrades.

    4. Increased demand

The cloud-based storage system is another alternative that attracts a lot of customers, and that is that they offer the opportunity to deploy applications in a simple way to customers.

They also offer a much more secure infrastructure. So there is no need for variable platforms.

    5. A year full of artificial intelligence and automatic learning

Artificial intelligence and machine learning are responsible for handling cloud solutions today. This is the reason why large companies are taking advantage of this technology such as IBM, Google and Microsoft.
