We'll regularly share bios and updates from IBM Champions here, along with some of what they do for the community and their activity. Meet some IBM Champions and see activity from this month.

Meet 5 IBM Champions

Rhonda Hackenburg

Rhonda is currently the Research & Development Manager for a small organization supporting 7 clients and has been using Informix for more than 30 years. She is currently a member of the International Informix Users Group (IIUG) Board and Vice President of WAIUG. She is honored to have been an IBM Champion since 2013.

Rhonda's work on the IIUG board includes managing their mailing list to keep the community informed about Informix related activities: IBM Webcasts, IBM Tech Days, IIUG Survey. She has contributed content to the IIUG Insider, as well the IIUG website, www.iiug.org.  As the vice-president of the Washington Area Informix Users group (WAIUG), Rhonda helped launch their first Virtual meeting in October.

Alexey Brook

Alexey leads the technology innovation and solutions design for the Java and Integration solutions subdivision at Matrix. His goal is to be the technology expert and leading architect for all Java and Integration related initiatives and projects. He has also served as R&D manager and team leader at Matrix, and before that project manager and team leader in Israeli Defense Forces technology unit.

Alexey has been advocating for and implementing IBM technology, including OpenShift, integration software (AppConnect, AppConnect Enterprise, MQ, Datapower, API Connect), and IBM Cloud services. He's also been working with Open Banking with IBM technology . He often speaks at events, promoting IBM solutions.

Salome Valero

Salome is developer and founder of Prometeo Platform S.L. (2019 Call For Code Global Challenge) and holds a Ph.D. in Engineering. She is enthusiastic in AI, Cloud, and IoT. As an engineer, she's focused on technology and business innovation. She believes in good tech to resolve human problems and global challenges.

Salome is an active part of the Call for Code community and IBM ecosystem. After winning 2019 Call for Code Global Challenge with Prometeo, she has had the opportunity to share code, experiences and adventures with a lot of developers and IBMers in 2020 and has spoken at a variety of IBM and 3rd party events globally (Spain, Portugal, UK, Israel, Australia, USA...) including speaking with Bob Lord at IBM Think 2020. She has also regularly spoken with press and is a strong advocate for IBM technology and IBM tech for good initiative.

Tom Van Daele

Tom is a technical Sales Engineer & Architect working for 12 years on a wide range of IBM Storage Technology and IBM Power.  He's also a Data Management & Data Protection enthusiast with a keen eye and solid vision on how to translate business requirements into solutions.

He has been actively engaged in multiple sessions around Spectrum Virtualize and Spectrum Protect, including  multiple webinars on the products.

Tom was also interviewed around IBM's position in the hybrid multicloud market space.

Ray Mullins

Ray has worked in the mainframe world for 37 years, from applications to systems programming to ISV customer support to ISV development, where he has been for the past 25 years. His specialty is z/OS and components system tools written in assembly, but he also works with Metal C, Rexx, and other languages. He is knowledgeable on other IBM Z OSes and their components. He is active in SHARE, as a speaker, committee member, and LANG Project Manager. He lives near Sacramento, CA, is married, and has two rescue Golden Retrievers.

Last year, Ray has been actively mentoring in the 2020 Master the Mainframe contest, and have been participating in SHARE as a speaker and as the LANG Project Manager. I have also been defending IBM Z as the best platform for enterprise computing on social media, and providing answers and information about IBM Z in several threads.
