Working with the IBM Champions is incredibly fulfilling. Learning about their expertise and how they contribute to the IBM communities around the world is awe-inspiring! With each interaction, I learn something new about their roles and how they commit to improving cybersecurity. Read below and get to know Paul Teichmann, IBM Champion for Security. Paul is a SIEM Engineer at Fiducia & GAD in Germany and actively shares helpful information with other QRadar users and administrators.

How long have you been an IBM Champion?
This is my first year as an IBM Champion. Before that I hadn’t known there was such a program and was made aware by an IBM consultant from Professional Services who helped us to deploy one of the largest QRadar environments in Europe.

What does it mean to you to be an IBM Champion?
It’s an honor to be recognized as an outstanding member of the IBM community for work with and around IBM products.

What were you most looking forward to as an IBM Champion this year?
I was really looking forward to attending THINK 2020 and other in-person events as it would have been a great opportunity to connect with other Champions and experts on special topics.

What technology trends are you currently most excited about?
In general, I don’t get really "excited" about trends in technology as most times they tend to be over-hyped. I tend to learn more about what it means for the current situation. For example, if there is a new technology or product out, I try to understand if and/or how we can make use of it and what differences it would mean for our current situation or how we work at the moment.

What kind of things are you working on?
I am almost always working on things related to QRadar. Learning more every day gives me the ability to help others with problems around QRadar. My GitHub repo is updated each time I find something that would help other QRadar administrators or users.

What is the best thing about working in cybersecurity?
You learn new things every day as cybersecurity changes every day. New threats are discovered daily and there is always to need to adapt to them.

What advice do you have for someone looking to start a career in cybersecurity?

Focus on a general understanding about cybersecurity, as it is a broad topic with lots of different sub-topics. One can always specialize on a specific sub-topic later.

What is your favorite thing about the IBM Champion program?
Being able to connect to experts on nearby topics and having the ability to ask about them. Additionally, there are lots of calls where different topics are presented.

What is your next act as an IBM Champion going to be?

I will probably add more to my GitHub repo to help other QRadar administrators and maybe along the way there will be another topic to write about in my blog.
